huggy's pretty much said it all already, so I'll just add a "+1" and the obligatory beer list: They were stocking two Nethergate brews, (3.9, a very tasty, slightly hoppy session-type beer and Suffolk County, a darker, maltier, chewier brew) which were both very tasty - we all, I think, had a preference for the 3.9, but I certainly enjoyed both. The pub is very nice inside with a wood stove/fire, beams etc.
Oh and the home-made scratchings and Scotch eggs were great.
I didn't get a picture of the scratchings, but the eggs, once cut up, looked like so:-
The landlord, Pete, was a very friendly chap, who with his wife Gill had taken over the pub in December last year.
35 miles in huggy's company (and chief's for about 5 miles). One more gratuitous ascent of North Hill chalked up (now on 9/52).
