Definitely a forumite as they shouted Gonz.Maybe you just look like a muppet. Or a Muppet ;)
I spotted Valiant on friday night. He was heading back to our table with two frothing pints of ale. Wot a good egg.
Who did I see on a TT bike and tri-bars just outside Bath about an hour ago?
Definitely a forumite as they shouted Gonz.
I thought it was a very flashy bike that you were on!
What was the frame?
I'm hoping to spot some forumites in the middle of a park in SW London tomorrow evening
I must give the old tackle a scrub in preparation.

I think you'll find that the meeting location is called Spankers Hill. :P
I was aspottyspottee in Dunstable today. I don't know who the spotter was though. But they lose points for being in their car when they could have been cycling in the sunshine. 8)

Guilty as charged M'Lud. In my defence, I was coming back from doing a car boot sale. Whilst I can get a certain amount ofrubbishhighly desirable items for sale in the trailer, I can get far more in the car.

Well, you lose even more points for wasting a sunny day at a car boot sale.
So there ;D
I bumped into Adrian going through croydon earlier in the week...nice chap...we swaped beard growing tips ;D
But I spotted you. Yes you teethgrinder, back in March locking up your yellow fixie and trailer outside thecar boot saleone day cycle sale in Milton Keynes. Just how many cheap goodies that you didn't need did you get in the trailer?
I've been to the NSW one a couple of times. Stunning scenary on the train ride up there from the South.Every Newcastle I've been to is Not Safe for Work. :o
I sawSantaMr & Mrs Wow in Northallerton at the weekend, didn't realise it was them, thought there must be twoSantas Old dufferspeople with large white beards that rode tandems. Surely Wow wouldn't be visiting my part of the world. Turned out he was....
I pictured a ritualistic barbie bonfireSpotted a lot last night through the clouds of barbie smoke :)
You smoke dolls? What a weird bunch.
Mike : That could be Dave, though he don't ride slowly. Though I do hear that he is riding around with a broken foot atm, so that could be the reason.
I saw Torslanda at a top-secret location on the M6 Southbound. It was a furtive meeting of like-minded fetishists, exchanging red hot goods for cash.Lancaster Bombers have a particular way of making parking spaces for themselves.
Not sure how he parked that Lancaster bomber mind...
I spotted someone riding across Tooting Common this morning, about 8.30 ish, with an ACF jersey on.Blue bike with blue rims, and blue h*lm*t?
Near the cafe. I was coming the other way, about to cross Bedford Hill.

By the time I'd noticed the jersey it was too late to register the bike, but a belated hello.
Do you live down thataway ?
I spotted four forumites last night, but that includes Butterfly, who I spot quite regularly, actually ;)
Does that mean that he's going to gas her and pin her to a cork board with a big needle?
:o
I am once again infused with the love of cycling and despite the slightly sore bum*, am itching to get started again.
*It seems my 8 weeks off have somewhat diminished my 150mile Sore Bum Syndrome (SBS) resistant behind, to a much more normal level. :-\
Yesterday afternoon I saw three people riding 'bents in Central/Admirals Park in Chelmsford. Two were together, one was on his own. Were any of them you?
I have never seen one recumbent in Chelmsford before, let alone three.
I bumped into a certain gentleman of this forum last night, who had previously ignored me at Trafalgar Square. To save his embarassment I shan't name names... but you know who you are.

Oh I'll own up!
Now that you're a svelte slim gym bunny I didn't recognise you from behind. You no longer fit my mental image.
There, will that do?
If its not him it brings the grand total of fixie riders in the city to 3 ::-)
You mean you dont know where Tunstall is?If its not him it brings the grand total of fixie riders in the city to 3 ::-)
Which city is that?
I randomly spot people round here riding fixed. There's a guy on a pompino that commutes from Gloucester to Cheltenham, who I see on my commute if I get up early enough. I've spotted a guy on fuji track bike in town. The only forumites I have spotted are blop (commutes on a fuji track) and andrew_s.
I believe I may have spotted Alans riding a green langster through Tunstall last night

If you're there, can you give a cheer please also to forumites Hibernian Exile (race no 46), y lee g (no 36) and also to the legendary George McNasty Berwick (no 32) who, at 67 years young, is riding his umpty-teenth Mersey Roads 24.

I'm on my way back in a couple of hours. It will be my pleasure to cheer them on.
:)
H Exile has dropped out due to heat.Aw, sorry to hear that. You didn't get the Magners to him soon enough, then?
I reckon we need something to make spotting forumites easier, something like a unique jersey would be an idea. ;D

it was the heat of Sunday afternoon, and we'd set out from Maldon to cycle home at 23:30 Saturday.
Don't ask.
I saw delthebike yesterday while on the tandem. It's a small world! I saw Mr. and Mrs. Nutty on a tandem, after some roadside fettlin' of said tandem, and I was also returning from Maldon. My trip was done on the same day though. Did you get back OK without any more fettlin'?
Sorry I was so grumpy - it was the heat of Sunday afternoon, and we'd set out from Maldon to cycle home at 23:30 Saturday.
You didn't seem grumpy to me, even after I recognised you.
I cycled past Dave last week, going down his favourite bit of road from Caddington to Luton, but he must have been in his grumpy mode, as he ignored me when I called out. ;D
I want someone to spot me and call out! I've not been spotted commuting before :'(Thats him, officer!! That's the man what did it!
I spotted Y Lee G on a road island just outside Chester at the weekend!
I spotted someone in an ACF shirt on Clapham Common a week or so ago. We both got leafleted by the cops, but were going in opposite directions.
Who was that?
Being one of those lonely molecules up in ´t Norf, I have yet to see a forumite when out on a ride.
I did once entrap one with some cake, though.... :D

I spotted a forumite on a ride a couple of months ago and I shall no doubt be seeing the same on and one other on Saturday.
I saw a black pudding on a bike today. It was neither black nor puddingy.
Yesterday there were two in my flat.
I need to be licked to appreciate the puddingyness.
By total coincidence I saw a Kirst. It looked kinda Kirsty, but more Kirsten.
There must have been several at the IHPVA bash at the weekend. I still don't know anybody's name though...

If the Speedy had a pirate flag, and we had a conversation about the IQ fly lamp, then that's be me. :)
Yay! Tonight I met Emily, the love of Jacomus-rides-Gen's life, and we cycled together most of the way to where we were going. She spotted my acf bottle, and I recognised the flame hair and piercings. She's just as lovely as Jacomus says. And doing a great job on her first (or was it second?) solo London cycle
Reminds me.
A certain forumite with pink/red hair on a heavily loaded utility bike going along Upper Richmond Road in Putney a couple of weeks ago (it was a Monday night I think).
I spotted Blackburnrod out doing some sneaky time-trial training on Longmeanygate in Midge Hall.
Damon.
On where?!? ;D
Greenbank: I was indeed doing clockwise laps today and yesterday. :) what were you riding? Fixed?
Ariadne in Portobello, Edinburgh heading East, with ? 1 o'clockish.Yep, that was me - heading out to play in my new tent in North Berwick. I was with Corvine, who came out for a bit of a ride on his road bike. Sorry I didn't say hello!
Crystal Tips on the NCR1, just North of Carrington. I was heading out to the Granites.

I considered claiming I'd seen you too but I confess I didnt. I am sociable and say hello to everyone though! You must have passed Andy Pandy too, he was (as ever) a fair bit ahead of me.
Well done on the Granites - a beautiful day for it. I am cream crackered enough after a trip to the reservoir - 6 months off the bike due to a dodgy hip has certainly taken it's toll :(

same again today but aout 12.00 heading west?
I was hanging over the garden gate, as you do on a sunny public hol when you have 3 girls and 2 big girl cousins to look after.
The Things whizzing down the hill to Kingston Gate in Richmond Park this afternoon at about three o'clock :)
You did, however, give me a polite wee 'fellow cyclist' wave. By the way, the Granites was nothing; yesterday I went up and down Redstone Rigg. It's only when you go down it you realise how f'in steep it is.
I feel a bit left out. Anyone take any of this route in the morning (http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Commute-from-Crouch-End-to-Oxford-Circus)? (Or a similar one in the evening...)

I live on St Thomas' Road so I could run into you one day...
It'd be impressive if he did blast past on that bike hehe
I don't believe they have. Do I have to go to Evans' or will you clarify?
I am disappointed that, in all my circuitous routes home, I've not been spotted :(

or the Things?
No, not the things, or Charlotte and Liz.Sam Walker?
The pilot was a white guy probably in his thirties. Female stoker about the same age or younger. She is quite small and has a darker complexion, possibly Asiatic?
Almost certain I saw the same couple on a Tandem at the Freewheel last year and pilot was wearing an ACF top then. Perhaps they took a different lifeboat?
Sam Walker?
Sunday morning, Birmingham Snow Hill Station: Ru88el and a handful of hishareemLadeez wot Cycle.
If I count them and the ones on the tunnel ride last year I think that leaves only another 50+ of his Ladeez I haven't met.
Pretty sure it was Auntie Helen recumberating into Harwich this afternoon.Yep, that was me - see my VERY long post in 'Have you been out today' in Rides & Touring as to why I was in Harwich covered in mud.
It was either MercuryKev who said hello to me this lunchtime or I've pulled in Bingham. :o ;D
Mercury Kev and Mrs MK, cruising round town on their Bromptons, looking like an advert for Cool Urban Riding.
Though I suspect you're not meant to cycle down Rose Street :P
I twigged after you'd passed me. It was hard to tell cos you had your sunnies on. I didn't have the bike today because of a variety of long boring reasons which ultimately didn't happen so I was wishing I was on the bike instead of walking, but mainly I was wishing I wasn't working!
BentMikey flying along here (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=clapham+park+road&sll=51.461655,-0.1372&sspn=0.016952,0.04549&ie=UTF8&z=16) on Saturday morning about 9:50am.
Well you looked like you were having a nice walk. Isn't Bingham lovely in the sun.
This morning, on my way in past Stockwell, I spotted a tall chap with long hair & a purple yacf jersey, riding a Witcomb fixed. I introduced myself. He removed his earphones, and I introduced myself again ;D
It was Darkpoint. Never met him before. Nice chap. We rode together as far as Walworth RAB, where we took different lanes, as we were heading different directions off the E&C.
He said he was doing a variation on his usual commute, adding a few miles but avoiding Crystal Palace (v. wise on fixed, I'd say).
... and one Emilia (who I always seem to see whenever I go up to Holborn).
Heading into Clapham, I spotted a purple yacf jersey way ahead, and assumed it was darkpoint.
Might have seen MercuryKev coming out of the tunnel tonight but I'm not sure.
No one has ever spotted me.
I must have "stealth" features.
:-\
Last night: Greenbank, I'm fairly certain, on Town Mead Road.
Also spotted you, I think, in Richmond Park (anticlockwise) on Sat 20th, 9.30 or so, in full tri-bar mode.
Also last night, TimO on the Fulham Road with serious rear lights in use.
Yep that would have been me alright. I spotted a nice Galaxy with a saddlebag chained up around the corner, was that anything to do with you?Yes that was mine :D. I'm beginning to worry that I might be losing it - recognising bikes, not their rider's ::-) ;) :-[.

On closer inspection, it turned out to be a lesser-spotted Greenbank.
An LEL jersey-wearer, riding a fixed wheeled bike.
Makes me wonder how many forumites I pass without knowing (being unknown to all and in Leamington Spa I mean).
Exchanged about a dozen words with someone from here half an hour ago on my commute, between Streatham and Norbury. With various cars, and other cyclists about it was hard to have much of a conversation, and whilst he knew me from FNRttCs, and I think I recognised him (although people in helmets always tend to look the same to me!), I didn't get his forum name, so own up, whoever you are. ;D

AlexB True we've met a fair few times, but always at night! you're right though, for the time of night, there did seem to be a fair bit of traffic about.
Think I spotted the lesser seen Tiger on the Uxbridge Road tonight. Obvious bent, A-Z t-shirt, iron jaw, determined look.Race Face jelly - Race Face. Not to be tangled with. Were you the persistent speedster who gave me the trouble then?

Saw Doop today at Climate Camp but sadly no Juliet :( Saw a lot of other familiar faces too.
Mildenhall was a Spotter's delight:
RichForrest was less easy to spot than his bivvy bag (which shared our pitch, but he got up earlier than us ;D )
Maladict
ChrisS
Cycleman
Nobby
Bikepacker
Annie, formerly of this Parish
Wowbagger
Delthebike & his distinctive pink cap
Tokamak
Bobb (sadly without his pink headgear :( )
Butterfly & Superstoker, of course!
Tarpaulin Dave (not a forummer, but known to many of us ;D )
Loads more...
Nutkin
Roger T
Marco Steffano
Bottlemasher
Regulator
FBOAB
Tuggo
are others that I spotted there.

I was right. Passed by about ten riders. :-[
Lunchtime. Queensway. Spotted a certain Wowbgger heading the other way.
This morning at 0835 hrs, turning right off the A34 onto Watery Lane(?) adjacent to Jubilee garage: rider with helmet on white frame, flat bars ,possibly front susp..
Was it Tonycollinet I wonder.
That Clarion top is superb.
goes off to look for socialist cycling clubs
Judean Peoples' Front? Splitters!:-\
Exactly. Exactly that. ;D
Though I might have gone for: Proletarier aller Lander, vereinigt euch! if you can throw in some umlauts. ;)
bent mikeyGeddit right!
Struggling over the Norbury summit of the Col du Streatham last night, I'd dropped a couple of posey roadies, when a chap appeared from behind. But I was the spottee (is that the word? Spotty, maybe? Dunno), so I let him tell.
I knew it was worth wearing the jersey & riding a different route :)
I'm pretty sure it was Wendy who waved at me cheerily from the other side of the road at Biggin Hill at about 9.30 yesterday morning. There can't be that many 40mph recumbent riders in Biggin Hill with a fondness for flashy lights, blue kit and cheery waves.
Chatted to Life of Brian at the Catford CC hill climb; he's hoping to be on the Whitstable FNRttC to mark the anniversay of his Seasalter tumble.
Accosted FWN who was wielding a big camera.
I was the one leaving a trail of guinness fumes...
I was riding south on a metallic red road bike with black finishing bits, wearing black kit and a white helmet. We passed by the bus stop alongside the main section of the airport.
A cyclist on the A34 travelling from Stafford to Stone this afternoon approx1645 hrs.Straight bars:single rear pannier on nearside of rack.Sounds like Lord Gordy of Stone on his winter hack.
Anyone of this parish I wonder?
That was my first thought but I suspect it wasn't him not least because AIUI he does not use that paricular part of the A34 & the bike was not a Ridgeback with disc brakes.A cyclist on the A34 travelling from Stafford to Stone this afternoon approx1645 hrs.Straight bars:single rear pannier on nearside of rack.Sounds like Lord Gordy of Stone on his winter hack.

If it was a yellow MTB with slicks it would have been my mate Steve.
Mercury Kev - carefully slaloming through the Towerbank children along the prom this morning.
I assume you weren't stopped by the representatiives of mr plod that were stopping some and advising that cycling is not allowed? Seemed a bit more daft than usual, given that the official policy is 'live and let live' and in any case the Council is planning on removing the cycling ban! I think Towerbank has one of the biggest proportion of 'cycle to school' kids in Embra - and thats partly because we have a prom to cycle along!
Almost forgot, Gordy, at the World Cup in Manchester.Bloody hell
Almost forgot, Gordy, at the World Cup in Manchester.Bloody hell
Gordy has stepped his game up somewhat since the last time I saw him!
I think I've just spotted a Kim.
Heading south on Raddlebarn Rd. 2:50 monday.
Cycling in the same direction as I was walking so no time to be sure. Looked like a high end Discovery with front pannier racks?
Hi Kim. (If it was you)
I've bumped into both Little Miss Mac and Zipperhead recently on the Embankment heading eastbound on the way to work. Anyone else regularly ride the bit between Chelsea & Lambeth Bridges?

I saw Xav today (who some may remember from LEL) however he registered here and didn't post so he has been culled.People are only culled if they have never logged in (two months from registration) since we assume they have forgotten all about registering. No-one is culled for not posting.
I've bumped into both Little Miss Mac and Zipperhead recently on the Embankment heading eastbound on the way to work. Anyone else regularly ride the bit between Chelsea & Lambeth Bridges?
Me. I do Putney Bridge, New King's Road, Edith Grove, Cheyne Walk, Chelsea Embankment, Grosvenor Road, Millbank, Lambeth Bridge, Fulham Palace Road, York Road, Upper Ground.
I see Zipperhead every so often. Never seen LMM on that stretch though. Probably because I usually do that stretch some time between 9am and 9.30am as I'm a lazy git.
Red Condor Tempo with tri-bars.
That wasn't you this morning in the orange jacket on Millbank was it?
I ride a short stretch of the Embankment every day from Cheyne Walk up to Royal Hospital Road, where I turn off and head up towards Victoria. I don't regularly see forummers, however.... Anyone else regularly ride the bit between Chelsea & Lambeth Bridges?
I regularly cross Embankment at Chelsea Bridge, but I continue northwards on Chelsea Bridge Road.
Ooh, talking of suspect bents, I thought I might have spotted bentmikey on my way home through Battersea Park the other week. It was dark, and the bloke in question was sitting on the kerb in front of a whizzy looking black bent, donning a pair of skates. Possibly some lycra in evidence.
Wendy, was that you dear? It didn't click until I was past, otherwise I would have stopped to say hi...
Good spot! I was just coming back from the pool. I'm living about two hundred yards from your office :D
Aaaaanyway, some of you may remember Ron the Chef, or Ronnie the Scot. It was he. He was riding a very smart black & white bike with 'Ronnie the Scot' on the downtube.
I hope he comes & finds us here. Nice chap :)
wowbagger, in my garden, hanging around since Friday.(click to show/hide)
Saw a Luke look-alike at 5 to 2 on the A52 between Cheadle(Staffs) & Stoke,carrying two panniers front & rear,honking up Richmore Hill.In Stokey that is pronounced "Luke luke-alike".
I really ought to have offered her my piping hot vegetable samosa...
Maybe.
Anyway, at 9.08 yesterday morning I spied Wendy on his upwrong heading north past Bromley. I was being a mondeo-enger taking elder son to band practice. Then at about 6 in the evening I had just dropped daughter at Downham pool and there was Wendy heading back down the A21.
I had no samosas with me.
I think I saw Wendy in today's Yehuda Moon (http://www.yehudamoon.com/index.php?date=2010-02-08) ;)
I saw Wascally Weasel last night, I was stationary at the time, and he overtook me at fairly low speed, did he say hello? Did he bugger!
I continued on a short while afterwards, but he was going so fast that although I could match his speed, I couldn't catch up, so I turned off and went home for a cuppa.
Reminds me. I think I spotted you (WW) one morning stopped at the traffic lights (Upper Richmond Road at the bottom of Putney Hill) at 8.30am-ish a week or two ago (don't you love the specifics).
Since I've never met you I wasn't sure (only seen photos) and I was on foot on my way to the train so I wasn't going to blurt out "Are you Random Person From The Internet?".
LOL, you could always ask if I'm Mikey. Lycra plus Giro helmet plus skates with BIG wheels by the Albert Memorial, that'll almost certainly be me. None of the other instructors wear lycra.
I don’t mind anyone asking me if I’m Wascally Weasel but I suspect that it might be a bizarre question to ask if it’s not me.
I don’t mind anyone asking me if I’m Wascally Weasel but I suspect that it might be a bizarre question to ask if it’s not me.
Well, I did once ask a chap at CM if he was Wascally Weasel and he wasn't. He seemed quite baffled by the question. I vaguely recall he might have turned out to be one of the Space Hijackers. I'm more cautious now.
:hand: My Way was not Sex Pistols, but on Sid Sings, credited to Sid Vicious (though Steve Jones did play guitar on it). </punkgeek>
I was only 12 in 1976,
:D It was me! Egad my butt is achy now, although much better since I bought a wider saddle. :-[ :-[
it perhaps doesn't count as a spot…
A bit like that, yes. ;D And I was only 12 in 1976, so no bondage trousers for me. Besides, I was more of a Northern punk (a la Buzzcocks etc) rather than an emulator of the Bromley Contingent, who we tended to regard as fashion victims. We wore black.
ta. don't think sharky enjoyed his watery coke though…it perhaps doesn't count as a spot…
I've just popped in to say I seen you today so hopefully two wrongs make a right. Nice bike mister.
Actually, we were buying mini sporks. Not half so macho :-[
Aunty Charlotte at the real tweed deal cycle ride. About a 1000 of the sods cycled through, stopped my lesson completely. LOL!
TT was that you? It wasn't me, but my tandeming friends Tall Phil and Not So Tall Verna on the train yesterday.
Hopped atrain to get to Horsham (the A264 is a seriously scary road in the dark) and ran firstly into a couple returning from Majorca with their S&S equipped tandem, and then a random lady Bromptonista. The tandemers turned out to be friends of Tim Hall, and the Brommer was into Moultons, and we just nattered bikes and 'bents and trikes and.....
Just nice.
Sub-spot - a week ago or so Emily met Adrian on her commute (I had left the house on time and thus didn't)
I saw Wendy today (although he was too busy working hard to notice me).
I didn't think I'd see him in his normal patch as something else was taking up his training ground
The Faccomb (4-1) (http://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=32112.0) ?
Heh. I have no Pinarello.
I might have spotted Rogerzilla yesterday.
Roger, were you cycling onto the roundabout where they recently demolished the Polcie Station, hacving descended the slight hill past the Courts at about 3:15 p.m. yetserday?
The rider I saw was on a drop barred bike which looked like it had a hub gear. The rider was in casual clothes and had a grey rucksack/ daypack on his back.
Were you thinking of this? (http://www.greenbank.org/bikes/wilier.jpg)
I met young Adrian, on the A23 between Norbury and Streatham, before he went Brixton-ward and went left towards Tooting Bec Common. We negotiated the road works and gormless junction blocking lorry drivers whilst having a conversation and trying not to be distracted enough to get squished by a vehicle.
Wendy, was that you on your 'bent with a black tailbox going round by the Oval at 5.40pm today?
I was going to shout but then became overcame with trepidation lest it not be you! I was going the other way and stopped waiting to turn right onto a cycle-only bit...
A suspected Regulator...
...on a singlespeed Pearson on Hills Road this morning?

It seems that meetings involving young Adrian involve hairy vehicular situations - reportedly Emily and Adrian were in the vicinity of a fender bender / near fender bender when they met again on a recent commute. :o
Always a pleasure to see you, Mike :)
I sometimes wonder if you get fed up with YACFers, CCers and others stopping to say hi - especially if you're in the middle of a lesson!

Were you going past East Putney tube yesterday afternoon at about 330?
This morning, I wore my Clarion jersey, and rode an extra 10km on roads I don't normally use, including along Embankment. I wasn't spotted :(
I was fully loaded, but late for work, so I was giving it some. Red forum jersey, of course.
You should have shouted. I didn't spot you, I'm afraid :( :( :'(
You were going too fast ;)
You were going too fast ;)
That is the most unlikely thing anyone has ever said to me ;D
I may sig it. ;)
I don't draft. I think I may have been about to overtake ;)
I saw at least one, if not two, tandems yesterday coming down off the Gospel Pass. Our clubrun (including myself and groucho) came up from the Hay side.
Theodbald's Road in London around 10am yesterday? Jurek and I were on Red Lion Street stopped at the traffic lights and saw a chap on a Van Nic with a black yacf jersey go sailing past. By the time it registered in my BRANE, it was too late to shout or wave.

Ah, just spotted this! Yes, that was me on my way to the Kent Invicta 400k. Well spotted!
Not a forumite as such, but I did see a chap with a leg bandageThat could be one of us! ;D
Dunno. Going through Hyde Park Eastbound as I was headed westbound at about 7:15 this morning? No idea what he looks like but a recumbent with what looked as if it might have been a camera? could have been Bentmikey, could have been anyone really. combined speed would have been about 50mph. Good job I didn't find out too closely.
Spotted yesterday (Thursday 3 June) at about 4.30 p.m.
Somebody sporting an orange YACF top on the DNA path between Addenbrooke's and Great Shelford.
Spotted by Mr R - if it had of been me doing the spotting I would, of course, have said hello.
I met up with LMM just before Lambeth Bridge RAB this morning (it would be more accurate to say she caught me up).
Stopped for a chat with adamski on Clifton Flyover this a.m. - he commuting, I daily pottering!
He's repeating his Nottingham - London ride on Sunday - but this time starting from the capital. "Ride safe".Not quite repeating as I'm going to via Lincolnshire, which'll give me a 50% increase in the distance ;D. Tho based on this (http://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=2177.msg642865#msg642865) I'm tempted to do it both ways >:(.

Ah, that would be me. Do tell him to say hi next time.
I happened upon Wendy in Hyde Park and then took him to a party ;D.
Spotted Butterfly, superstoker (is that his correct nom de guerre?) and Clarion this evening on Tooting Bec. Not sure if they knew who I was as I was on my Ridgeback and wearing a Dirt Rag shirt and baggy shorts.
1gear on his Carlton at the edge of Langdale
Wearing a yacf jersey this morning, which meant that Chris L could easily spot me as he drew swiftly up with me. We chatted through Clapham, till we came to a rise, where I let him ride rather than being a gentleman and keeping his pace down to mine fully loaded. ;D
That Cliff Shrubb is really cool.
And you certainly did :). We really enjoyed that and it was lovely to see you again. Sorry we had to dash off a bit.
Pretty sure I spotted a Mr and Mrs Wealsy heading out Richmond park on a tandem early afternoon today.

If it's a red one, then he and I had a chat about Carradice bags at the lights in Tooting the other evening.
fhills, loitering outside the Eddisford Bridge Inn waiting to join us today for part of our big ride, and a jolly nice time we all had too :)
alexb: you nailed the Balham-Tooting Bec straight - turbo canvass!
Wendy in Richmond Park this morning?
I think I spotted Origamist by the road, parking his bike last night. Can't remember exactly where.
Kim. Have you just flashed past the Country Girl onna 'bent?
Basil. Do you ever leave that pub, and are you surfing YACF from therein?
I just spotted a yacf jersey in the wild! Between Harlton and Haslingfield. I suspect Dr Mekon but any cranial abnormalities were hidden by headgear.
I rode past the Country Girl on the bent again this evening. No obvious sign of Basil. Maybe he'd nipped to the loo or something? ;)

First p*nct*r* in 4 months, so I'm not complaining. Parked up just after Balham tube...
@Darkpoint - where you wearing a YACF jersey with Dulwich Paragon shorts this morning? If so, I passed you at Stockwell doing some useless hand gestures...
Yes, that would have been me..
But I am confused now, who was doing the hand gestures? :-)
I saw Origamist again this morning. He hailed me as he pulled past, then executed a perfect trackstand inside the ASL with no wobble or creep, and sped off.
@Clarion - was in a bit of a rush this morning, but I still had time to admire your fluent pedalling action... ;)
CrinklyLionCub, spotted today, outside york library on his Benin
I'd just been overtaken by a chap on a titanium Condor, (annoyed, no doubt, at being left at the lights), down through Clapham when Origamist zoomed by, sweeping past the Condorista with ease. He must have a biiig gear on that there Plug of his.
I tried to keep up, but I couldn't manage it, and got cut off by daft bus driving at Stockwell.
Next time, maybe... ;D

I spied a brace of fast-paced weasels heading across the north side of Lincoln's Inn Fields as I was leaving my office at about 6.10 this evening.

If you had hung around a bit longer you would have seen Charlotte arriving on her penny too and earned extra spotting points!
Would it have been Oaky sweeping round the corner off Kingsway on a Dahon Cadenza Solo at about 6.05 yesterday? That bike looks excellent on the road - i thought it looked a bit weird and ungainly in the shop but it looked like a fun ride.

and again - this morning at about 8.45 I turned right from Kingsway into Remnant Street and spotted an Oaky-like figure hurtling towards me on a gleaming white cadenza solo.
[I've been waiting for this day!!! -- spotted at last!!! yay ;D]
I (and many others) spotted a pixieannie looking lovely in Debenham on Saturday. We scared the beejesus out of her by hurtling past shouting 'Helloooo Annniiieeee'
;D
I saw a very red head raised high above the crowd on Sunday in Ealing. Didn't take long to work out it was that Charlotte on her high wheelerQuote
********** Ancient Joke Alert ************
. . . She was a redhead, no hair - just a red head!

Not necessarily a forumite, but certainly well known to many of us, and not in the wild, but I spotted a Juliet in the latest copy of London Cyclist.
I think I saw Darkpoint today, not in RL but on the box.
I was round at a friends and they had the television on showing a program filmed in Luton Airport, I'm fairly certain that they chatted to Darkpoint (although the sound was off so I couldn't hear)
Tonyh spotted in a grey acf top between Kingston and Great Eversden (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Great+Eversden,+Cambridge,+United+Kingdom&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=25.288195,56.513672&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Great+Eversden,+Cambridge,+United+Kingdom&ll=52.16751,-0.012188&spn=0.019057,0.055189&z=14) on a DIY, I believe. Stopped for a chat, which made my commute.
Just remembered too... Pippa and myself spotted Wendy last Sunday morning, bombing down Bromley Hill as we were grimping up it on our way to Adam's Kent pootle.
Spotted a blue YACF jersey heading west on Lower Thames Street at 6:30pm today. Too far away to identify bike or rider.
I thought I saw Valkyrie this evening - on a Brompton?! Bottom of North Bridge?

Green s/s yacf jersey in Richmond Park this morning - Wascally Weasel perchance?

(although I do tend to be going a bit "balls out" concentrating only on the road surface and traffic front and rear -- I've been amazed by the number of statues and even buildings that I didn't notice were there even though I go past ever day!)...

What can I say? This is a rare - extremely rare - spotting.
Coupled with a transfer of the Gaydisco, on any scale this has to rate ver highly. I'm thinking Richter 8+
May the Massi enjoy many wonderful miles, and may the wind always be behind you.

I was wondering what happened to the Gaydiscobike! Have you got it now?
Pippa and Jurek - in my house eating cake!

Only just put the gps bracket on it and a quick ride around the block had it up to an easy 45kph ;D
It seems hard to get its 81lb (+ my 200lb) up to speed but once it's up there it goes well.
Are those solar panels on the top?
I was going to say it seems a bit heavy, but doing a quick metric conversion it's competitive with a Quest. The Mango does come in a pared-down 27kg (60lb) version, though.
Who's this, then? 0:35

Ni-ice socks!
Teethgrinder buttonholed me as I was standing about in the A5 Rangers clubhouse on Sunday morning, about to do an LVRC road race. Surprised to see him there, I asked him if he was racing too! But he was there to help marshal.
He had a bike with gears on it, whatever next?
:)
Lovely coffee. My cheap ready ground muck isn't hitting the spot after those cups this morning.
That look over your gorgeous Amazon has tipped me over the edge; just ordered my 5th stem in an effort to get comfy on my bike.
I saw TimO staring at his GPS with a puzzled expression. I was close to home, but prepared to take a tiny diversion to turn him round & send him off towards his target. He was only 180 degrees out. ;D

I made the mistake of following a cycle route. Naively I assumed that they would include things like signs and road markings at junctions.
It was Ariadne in civil clothing on her way back to the north.
I met CrinklyLion, and the rest of her pride yesterday, as did TLD.
Much cycling and cake did follow :)
I was rather looking forward to riding in your company, even if only for a short space. Apex sorted me out, though I have yet to fit my new spoke :-[
And you've just emerged from hours of torrid lovemaking in a by-the-hour hotel...?
Gosh, plasa. Must be over 20 years since I was there.
Lol yay I finally got spotted :D I was on my way to Earl Court for the Plasa show. Some very nice goodies there.
That said I thought I spotted you on the way back around 6-7pm ish on a brommie but I think I was mistaken. I also got chatted up by a fellow cyclist :D
I was spotted this morning, as I headed into New kent road from Elephant & Castle. Not sure if it was someone from here.
I was wearing my Clarion 1895 jersey, and, as I went past, someone shouted 'Clarion!'. I think I recognised the voice, but, when I looked back, I couldn't see who it might have been in the crowd near the bus stop.
Sounded like a North European voice - Dutch or German, maybe ???
Of course, they may have been a Clarionette themselves, or reading my jersey, or be someone from another forum...

Look, this thread is for spotters, not spottees. If you want to report being spotted, you need another thread.
(Otherwise it's all: I saw myself on the way home in every bus shelter)
Spotted Butterfly and Clarion in the latest Camping and Caravan Club magazine!
Possible sighting...
Caught up with a chap in a LEL jersey heading east past Tower of London just after 18:30. Had a brief chat, but traffic was flowing and we parted ways. Was it any of you?

Well spoken, quite tall, on a Brompton with a carradice bag on the front? Might have been Xav who used to lurk here, rode most of last day of LEL with him, top chap, have bumped into him once or twice on my commute as he goes down Upper Ground.

I think that might have been me. Did you peel off to the left as we approached the lights at Tower Bridge? You were telling me that you had entered a tough 300km in Wales last year. Given what happened later on I wish I'd slowed down for a longer chat, but I was trying to get home in time to read bedtime stories!
A Wascally Weasel helping someone out (could have been someone else on here I think) by the Lupus St junction on the way home tonight. I waved (was wearing orange YACF jersey but had a rucksack on) but I'd only thought of something witty to say too late (several miles in fact).

A pleasure to meet you, Redlight. :)
About two minutes after parting ways I remembered the name of the ride: The Elenith.
I saw Origamist at Stockwell this morning. Don't think he saw me. I was on a different bike, not wearing a yacf or Clarion jersey, and had a h*lm*t on. I stuck on his tail till Oval, but never close enough to talk without distracting him.
Then I had to give up & let him go. He really is quite fast.

I've seen him three days in a row now.
Last night I saw him at Stockwell, and caught up with him by Clapham North (he had a deeply unfortunate run of red lights). He did a double take at the bike, and I explained about the S3X. We had as in-depth a conversation as one can manage at the lights and the short distance to Apex (where I went first for a spacer).
This morning, I saw him again. I think he was taking it easy, though. I'm rather unwell today, and a bit slow, but I kept him in sight for a while before stopping beside him. He commented about the size of the bike, but I think it's OK for me. Then he sped off. But I saw him walking his bike a little further on. Hope everything was OK. I was already late for work on a day I'm interviewing, so couldn't stop. :-\

Cycling on my local monthly cycle rides today found us using a bit of the Oxford to Cambridge route for a few miles. I was passed by a bloke and thought he looks familiar ???
I passed him going up through Woburn park and on stopping to wait for the others in my group he pulled up and asked who I was on the forum
Hello Adrian ;D
It's a bit dispiriting to be doing 30kph, passing other cyclists, and have someone steam past not seeming to be making any effort...
Saw him again tonight. But this time I caught him up :smug:
Before he zoomed off anyway :-\
A splendid and charming Dr Volio in his native habitat yesterday.

Look - let's just assume for the foreseeable future that, if I don't say otherwise, Origamist has, at some point, zoomed past me. ::-)
Quite apart from Andrej (who I was riding with), Rogerzilla and the FNRttS folw who I was riding too, Wendy teaching people how to roller blade in Hyde Park. They seemed to be having fun.
Shhhh! ;)
... Todmorden in Yorkshire ...
Woollypigs and Peliroja in my office! (In Brisbane, Australia) - looking relaxed and fit. They've left their bikes here until Sunday while they travel a little north with friends (much to the interest of my work colleagues) :)Thank you Sandy for such a great welcome (forummers aren't half lovely!) and what lovely relaxed work colleagues you have. :) See you again very soon.
Until 1865 IIRC, the border passed through the middle of the town, symbolised by the frieze on the front of the Town Hall, which sat on the boundary. What, the Yorkshire half of the freize showing delightful civilised people living a refined life, and the other half just saying "here be dragons"?

Did the Fleet Moss 200km AUK perm yesterday. Decided to start from Todmorden in Yorkshire and cycle to the start from Manchester. On my departure from Todmorden leaving the ATM for validation a cyclist wizzed passed me shouting my nick name. Obviosly late for work as it was 7.30 am and waved me on. I shouted 'Who's that ? ' No reply. I don't know anyone in Yorkshire apart from a few AUK'ers. Who was it ?

Whilst out walking the dog just now, I was overtaken by a brace of speeding blurs in what may well have been the forms of Domestique and 2 Flat Erics as they mounted the pavement by the funeral directors' in East Street and disappeared down the cycle path alongside Victoria Avenue.

Oh, a whole bunch of forumites, some I've met before, some not, on various dark and winding roads between London and Brighton. There was an Adrian, a TimO, a Tigerrr and more.
You can see some of them in this photo (http://www.flickr.com/photos/itsbruce/5191573047/in/set-72157624385105316/), with Adrian deep in contemplation at the centre.

You need a Reggie cuddle....
I met and had a nice chat with Phil d in Stacey's Kitchen in Cricklade earlier this morning. He was carbo-loading ;) in the middle of a drizzly 200. I'd driven the 5 miles to the cafe for a fry-up. :-[
Charlotte, pictured as part of a LEJOG article in the new issue of 'Cycle', the CTC rag. :thumbsup:Turn over a couple of pages and you will see her again in the article on the Knutsford Great Race.
Yesterday - the Tiermat family, Uncle Phil and Mrs Uncle Phil, 'Slow'coach, LindaG and Crusty. And then today, Arch who was in my house peeling sprouts.
Simon P, cycling out of the carpark at the physio while I was on the phone in the car.
I was the next appointment and tried not to think about why the treatment table was still nice and warm...
We've got that Manotea locked away in the spare room :)
He gave me a gland compression nut.
I spotted Wascally Weasal doing something mechanical to his bike by the side of the road this morning.
Sorry I didn't stop, WW, but I was running late and you looked like you knew what you were doing :D
Reminds me, did anyone do the Southwark cyclists Christmas Day ride and have a drink in the Dukes Head in Putney?
I spotted a number of cyclists but no-one I recognised (no Andrij or SotR like last year).

That was just after Chelsea Bridge on the Embankment?
I was as clueless as usual but muddled through the last of the faerie visits of the year.
I think I saw Jurek this afternoon, whizzing along East Hill. I was at a bus stop and by the time I was confident enough that it was him to call out, he had gone too far past to hear me :-[.It was I.
You were heading towards Wandsworth :). I was working, had a pushchair instead of a bike :(.

Yes, that was it. You charged past me yesterday, too, at the same place, and there was no way I could catch you before you turned left. I did hear you saying something to the chap who happened to be cycling the wrong way down your side of the street. ;D
"There's only one cyclist who has a light as bright as that!" I called out as my retinas collapsed.
Indeed it was PaulR a few moments ago in my road (and his).
We talked about beer, soldering and washing machines.
VeloYellow was spotted yesterday between Falls Creek and Mt Beauty on the Audax Australia Alpine Classic by a YACF couple in Elgin cycling club jerseys. His YACF KOM jersey might have been the tip off.
Spotted Clarion at Clapham South this morning when I was riding angry (which makes me careless and pushy).
On a more positve note, I spotted myself on a Youtube vid along CS7:
YouTube
- CN09 JBY - Helpful Lorry Driver?
Possibly Zipperhead heading along the embankment past Albert Bridge on Friday? We were in a hired car stuck in the traffic, so we couldn't chase him to find out :-\.

More positive than spotting me? >:( Harrumph!
I wonder if there should be a separate section for spotting yourself? Very reflexive and post-modern ;D
Tentative spot: itsbruce heading North through Stockwell between about 0800-0815. Twas certainly a yellow bike. The rider was wearing a cycling cap.
Arch, earlier this evening. In my living room, eating her tea :)
Spotted Zipperhead cycling down Millbank this morning. I'm sure he didn't recognise me as I was in fancy dress.
Yet another crossing of paths with PaulR earlier this evening.
He, on his way home, from work.
Me, on mine, from Sainsbury's.
Topics discussed were as follows:
° Brightness of front lights.
° My ride today, at which point I slightly lost PaulR.
° Satellite passing overhead - the reason for slightly losing PaulR.
° The International Space Station, and its availability to the general public over the next few days.
° Aquaria, and the installation/upkeep therof.
At which point we both decided it was time to head for our respective homes :)
In all, not a bad encounter. :D
pretty sure i spotted a clarion in black yacf top along with a butterfly heading south in ealing tonight
I spotted Aidan's nephew earlier today.
Not on this forum, but I spotted the Bandaged One near Aldgate. He was off to meet Jurek for a FNRttC recce, I was walking back to the office having dropped of my bike at Bicycle Magic. (Yes, I know, should have done it on Monday...)
That's two people I've spotted this week, both times while I was sans bike. :-\
Today, when I was on my way to work, Arch on her way to work. Who is neither gangly nor especially hairy, and doesn't really loom either.
Clarion ...looking composed ...
Arch, out in Beryl the Yellow Peril yesterday when we caught her up (despite the fact that Beryl was looking a bit nippier than usual in the arm weather) at the lights. We were walking :)
Then Arch, on her upwrong, on her way to work this morning as I was waiting to turn out of our street.
On my way to work last night I saw Ianrauk. OK, he's off CC, but still a forumite. :P

If I'd left a little earlier, I might have passed you!
Did I spot a woollypigs doing a cycle surgery/doctor bike session at the north end of Southwark bridge last night around 5pm? I was running past as I was late for a train so didn't stop to say hello :-[Yes, he was there last night, and picked up a Zipperhead and a PGTips while he was at it! ;D

Seen two today, Deano as we drove down the A167, then MSeries as we drove back, 2 hours later!I wasn't on the A167 today. It was an imposter. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
You should have beeped, T. I probably wouldn't have flicked you the v's.
Lots of VC167 shirts out today. It could have been FE Bob or Steve B, if you saw 'em from behind.
Arallsopp at around Lewisham parts. I'm sorry but I had to ruffle his hair, its gotten big. Great to see you

Groucho and TOBY ogling Marco Pantani's 1998 Mercatone Uno Bianchi in a car showroom in Pontypridd earlier tonight. No, really!
Possible spotting of charlie_lcc abotu to head south across Tower Bridge.
Definite spotting of her_welshness at the north end of Tower Bridge, where we arranged to meet for a pleasant pootle along the Thames :) (north half of my Thames Path Meander ride, but in reverse).
I'm fairly sure I saw Mr Bunbury, disappearing down Lawrence Street towards Walmgate Bar earlier this evening.
Seen a great pic of Jellied in a magazine. He's famous.
Was that Wendy teaching?
Spent an hour or so sitting in the sun near the Albert Memorial, watching a skating lesson. Was that Wendy teaching? Well I wasn't going up to a complete stranger to ask, was I!

Only if I was wearing mostly blue lycra. There are usually quite a few skaters teaching up there.
A tall (looking) bloke wearing a KOTM yACF shirt heading at a rate of knots past Wythenshawe Park late this afternoon.
I was wearing my yellow yACF top going in the opposite direction at the head of a long line of cyclists.
We were heading back to Chorlton Water Park to conclude the Chorlton Wander.
AlexB, family and friends at the Streatham kite festival. Thanks so much for inviting me, that was a particularly fine way to spend my afternoon off!!
Oh arse! I didn't know that there was a kite festival so near :(
AlexB, family and friends at the Streatham kite festival. Thanks so much for inviting me, that was a particularly fine way to spend my afternoon off!!
It was great seeing you and your arrival and departure caused quite a stir!
Do you have footage of you leaving? We should all be lined up and waving if I remember correctly!
Never mind. It's OK. Maybe next year?

I always seem to manage to miss the Kite festival, which I think has been going on since before I left Streatham, and that was three years ago.
I occasionally see kites being flown on Clapham Common, and on a couple of occasions with someone using them with a longboard, although not very successfully, which may have been because it wasn't all that windy at the time.

OK, so that's at least 3 of us.
I'm not sure about my plans for getting home from bognor yet, but if I have a bit of freedom, perhaps we could pack kites? My 8 foot foil doesn't take up much room...
Are kites acrobatic or aerobatic?
I have red kite material.
I have red kite material.
I have red kite material.
I have Red kites up the ying yang- but then living where I do, Red Kites are a suppository.
... The more I think about it, the more inclined I am to bring my kites to Bognor / Felpham on the FNRttC.
I just need to check the tide tables - high tide early in the morning would put paid to any kiting...
Tourist Tony: and what a splendid afternoon it was too :) It was indeed. Lovely to see you, TT.
And how remarkably quiet the London traffic was. Apart from the noisy ones, that is.....Yeah the boys was out with their toys. I saw at least four "super" cars while eating and all of them had to rev their right outside where we eat.
Bit slow off the mark from me - but thanks for the spotting. There should be another of me extracting a 20" inner from a 26" wheel....probably.Seen a great pic of Jellied in a magazine. He's famous.
Actually, two pics of him. In the second, he appears to be extracting a 26" inner tube from a 20" tyre ???
He seems to have won an award for being a top person. We knew that already, of course, but now he's been recognised on a wider scale.
Extremely modest, too, it seems.
Woolly and Peli spotted me at the Albert Memorial this afternoon, I was so chuffed they stopped to say hello. It was so nice (as ever) to see you, Mikey (and meet AlexWarrior1). What a beautiful day, and not too much traffic about. We saw loads of people enjoying the Boris Bikes - fantastic.
By chance I'd also met up with AlexWarrior1 from Vancouver, a YouTuber I particularly admire. I'd seen some recent videos of him Boris biking it like a pro, and realised he was here in Londene. We got to meet up after a quick few pm's were exchanged, and it was awesome hanging out in the park with him!!
Forumite spotting! On Charing Cross Road this morning, three cyclists kitted up for a long journey, with panniers fore and aft. Female rider in pink yacf jersey, male rider in blue yacf jersey.
Feline flying down the Wye Valley between Chepstow and Tintern this morning, with a group that looked like the Bristol Oldtimers.

We went for a little 100k pootle to Kerne Bridge for a pub lunch. it was a lovely day for it too! As we passed your neck of the woods I did say 'my Sabbath was born near here' ;D

I trust you appreciated the pristine litter-free Peregrine Path, after a fellow ranger and I took 2 black bags of crap off it yesterday!
If it was this morning, she was already in Wednesday.
Aidan, in Pocklington, drinking coffee and selling me some shoes. I hoe your knee gets better and I see you on The Lincoln in 2 weeks!
Aidan, in Pocklington
;DAidan, in Pocklington
See, I told you he wasn't a figment of my imagination. Unless your new shoes are as well....
TT walking along the platform at Gatwick train station yesterday evening. I was on a rather crowded train at the time and feared that had I got up to bang on the window some bugger would have had my seat.
A Butterfly appearing to be heading in a homeward direction, as I was in the area on a long detour to the shop at the end of the road. ;DThat was a long detour! Sorry I took so long to realise it was you - my thoughts were: ooh bike... ooh, light is on...that's bright, is it a cyo...no, it might be a fly...oh, it's Thing2!!! By which time, you'd whizzed past and I only saw your carradice :-[ ;D. It's been a long day.

"You know you're a cyclist when..."
I got caught, by Dr Mekon, having a crafty fag in the smoking shelter at Addenbrookes this morning... :-[
;D
Hmm, given the limited distance he'd ridden at that point, I must admit, the arrival of a pretty young chap in the shelter as we were chatting did make me somewhat suspicious of his motives, particularly given how lithe Reg is looking these days.

I didn't spot him... :(
Just spotted Kim cycling through Kings Heath, proudly sporting a black and white YACF top.
Spotting other forumites is not a common occurrence in Birmingham.

Surely you can see Basil any time you stick your head round the pub door?
I regularly pop my head around the doors of a number of Birmingham's pubs, but unless he's got a YACF top on my chances of recognising Basil are 0.
Did you actually tell me to 'get on the cyclepath', or did I mishear? ;D
This morning, between Stockwell and Oval, I saw Origamist (I think), wearing High Road gear.
Just met Zigzag in Bermondsey on the way home. I think my Audax UK shirt gave away that I might be a forumite. Anyway, the traffic was horrendous but he lived up to his name and got through it much quicker than I did, living up to mine.
Yeah! I was doing quite a bit of fixie spotting as I sat there. It was really strange. I saw 2 more individuals who I knew, both on bikes, cycling past. Although, I guess, it is a fairly well frequented cycling route. Just after you passed, a young guy came past. and at the junction of Trinity St with Gt Dover, he performed a perfectly stylish fixie dismount, such as I have now lost the ability to execute (tried to demonstrate a few months ago on my daughter's bike and fell off several times before I managed to do it, and even then very clumsily). Lesson learned: Use it or lose it. I was sufficiently impressed by his skill to announce it loudly to my companions. They were completely bemused.
I was sitting by a large pond in Barton yesterday late morningish, scoffing cake in order to prepare myself for 40 miles of headwind, when i saw a very dapper looking fellow in a flat cap zipping along on a Bakfiets - could this have been a sighting of Dr. Mekon?
Sounds like a recipe for disaster if I were to try it.....
I think the Saddle bag (Nelson Longflap) and the cleats would cause problemsSounds like a recipe for disaster if I were to try it.....

Going past the end of our street - Beryl the Yellow Peril with (possibly) an Arch on board - I'm not 100% certain. And just round the corner, Arch's colleague D powering along on the Maximus trike. He makes it look remarkably easy.
I was weaving through the clogged traffic at Aldwych on an early ride home today when a courteous and tolerant cyclist on a red bike allowed me to cut in from the right. He then passed me on Waterloo Bridge, gaining speed but not so quickly that I was prevented from spotting that his bike was a Cliff Shrubb and that it was adorned with an olive Carradice bag and some stylish bentwood mudguards. A couple of synapses fired in my head: I've read someone describing this bike somewhere. I eventually caught up with him as we approached the Old Vic (clogged by traffic again) and I mentioned this to him - he revealed himself to be ChrisL. Nice to meet you!
Almost positive it was manotea coming up Wimbledon hill this evening following a young lady (one of the miss manoteas?) as I came down it.
Being that I hardly ever ride the fixed anywhere other than the flat run in to Kensington/Chelsea, I was too busy remembering how to go down hill fixed to shout out at him.
...It's the last hill before home.
...It's the last hill before home.
That'll learn yer for living at the top of the hill! If you were at the bottom with us hoi polloi, you wouldn't have the hassle!
Clapham Common itself is essentially dead flat, but there's a hill on the approach to it, Cedars Road, which we go up on the Brighton/Bognor FNRttC route.
It's about 21m of rise in around 550m, so that implies it's about 1 in 26, which isn't all that challenging. As Clarion said, it is however probably the steepest bit on my commute.
Segment of commute (http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Up-to-and-across-Clapham-Common), and the elevation profile:

Heh, you are very welcome to come join me on my commute any time :D
Heh, you are very welcome to come join me on my commute any time :D
One of the flip sides of my commute is that there are around 60 traffic lights along it, so Clapham Common is also one of the least traffic lighted parts of the route.
The traffic in That London is also interesting. Even having left work at 11pm, and arrived home just before midnight, the roads are still pretty busy.
Yup, you are right, I can often ride my entire commute without stopping at all ... and there are no traffic lights on it at all ;D
;D We do wear the same size jersey too :o

I see him in random places several times a year. He popped up in Llandovery last year on Brevet Cymru day.

A quiet and unassuming man, very interesting to chat with. Of course, your name came up, and he spoke fondly of you. The conversation also included mention of Mr Abrahams and his exploits, as well as many others. I'm afraid I couldn't remember very many RL names of forumites :(
Does Crinkley have 'in case of emergency break glass' cake packs?Unwrap clingfilm. You wouldn't want broken glass in the cake.
I can't think how that can have happened.....
otherdave and I were partaking of lunch in the caff at Fettercairn today when we espied the Pingus. Which was nice.
Hope you enjoyed the cakes. :)
I spied a red YACF shirt going round the track at Herne Hill this morning, supported by a pair of Dulwich Paragon shorts: Dulwichrider perhaps?
A KOTM YACF shirt partaking of lunch at The Old Smithy Monyash yesterday about 1pm as I drove past on the way home from a week in the Peaks. I did ride there but that means going right through Derby which is OK but.....
Did have a trip up Winnats on Wed though which was a hoot!
Aha, sorry not to have recognised you dp. A lovely day to be out on the track.
Virtual Spotting:
I was in a certain Bike Shop today and the lovely staff member was on the phone to PpPete (I think) :).
Does that count?

Indeed - he'd not finished reciting his inscription by the time I said "That's Russ"
Was that The Things I saw early Saturday morning near Capel? A cheery tandem team anyway, who waved while I regained my breath and got my bearings.
A lesser spotted interzen, onnabike, and then being sociable and everythink. Whodathunkit!Pics or it never happened ;)
This morning, we rode up to Tooting the opposite way to the London to Brighton ride. Good to see thousands of cyclists just having fun. And we spotted a red yacf jersey, but we weren't quick enough to ID the rider. :('Twas I, Clarion - I caught your shout too late to properly reply, and doing anything rash in that crowd of BSOs would gave been fatal! I did wave, once the old brain cells had chugged into action, but probably far too late!

I was with my wife and her eldest, on his first longish mass-participation ride. He enjoyed it, but learned how dangerous these things can be if you treat them like a sportive - more accidents by high speed downhill riding than you can shake a stick at!
This morning, I caught up with Origamist :o :o :o
Quick chat, then let him go...
We managed to miss all the rain - let alone hail - but we saw maybe seven or eight ambulances attending spills. One or two looked pretty serious, including one chap who'd landed up 20 yards into a field on the downhill after Fanny's Farm. And one guy managed to take out my wife by trying to overtake on a busy stretch, hitting the wing mirror of a car going the other way, and bouncing off into the crowd of riders on his left, the nearest to him being the Lady V! Fortunately no harm was done, other than to pride, but it could have been so much worse. Anyway, other than that, it was a good ride and young Master A is looking forward to more - he liked the idea of the Dun Run!!
A shame you didn't spend a few minutes with us, Clarion - it would have been good to meet you!
I was shocked at the number of ambulances I saw on the route. I saw two in 300 yards on the run down off Ditchling to Brighton ...
I was shocked at the number of ambulances I saw on the route. I saw two in 300 yards on the run down off Ditchling to Brighton ...
That's a shame, because once you've done Ditchling, the run from there down to the A27 is quite nice (and then across continuing along Ditchling Road, or at least that's the FNRttC route). On the last FNRttC, I managed to not see another cyclist from there until I got to the Madeira, which wasn't intentional!
I've got no real wish to do the BHF L2B, it just sounds far too busy. The FNRttC equivalent, even with it's much busier numbers these days, is still comparatively easy going.
Wednesday just after 5pm, Wobbly John in Chettisham heading to Littleport, wearing a rather definitive tango orange top. I was heading for an abortive trip to the bike shop.
At least some of those transgressors probably would behave better on an FNRttC run. A huge ride like that, it's an anonymous nearly-mob. I find other ways to contribute to charity. Not for me
... and Aperitif stopped to say hello at the AM this afternoon.
I was spotted this morning by a cheery chap, whilst I was chatting to another random cyclist. Saw them again as we approached Oval, then they where gone.

You in Red YACF top & Dulwich Paragons shorts? That was me! Spotted your jersey and couldn't just skim past without a nod, but didn't want to interrupt your discussion with B&W chap on B&W Giant. Amazed I haven't seen you before - just shows how a 5 minute earlier departure yields a whole new community.
FWIW, I am red Cliff Shrubb with green Carradice. Oh, and very lovely wooden 'guards. I'll hang out for a chat next time.

I really am very deaf on the road, sorry. Wind noise especially is hard to hear through.
Hope I'll see you this evening, though :)

Does this story need to be shared with the rest of us?
Must have been bloomers100 who called out and waved this morning, turning South from Great Waltham as I was heading North to Braintree. Must go for a beer some time soon... There will be a game of rounders and a barbecue at the Chelmer CC club hut on Wednesday next week if you're interested?
Today I was riding in the Normandy Alps on the Semaine federale and spotted/chatted to/rode with Tugo, Campagman, Madcow and Mr and Mrs Ernst on their tandem. A fantastic days riding in the most lovely terrain.
A hellymedic in that London Cyclist magazine.
Also my good self presenting a bottle of something to the lesser spotted joftek for being the fastest spanner in the west.
How come I had a couple of pints of shandy and I've been hung over all day, and Tiermat was up with the dawn patrol seemingly unaffected?Blimey, I was totally alcohol-free1 all night and didn't manage to crawl out of bed until 11am (and then crawled back into it again after SWMBO went home). Having said that, one of the guys I used to hang out with at university was teetotal and I swear that after a good night out he'd have a worse hangover than any of us.
If I'd drunk as much as I believe you may have done tiermat, I'd have been on a life support machine for about a week.
First forumite spot in a while. Riding home from work this evening down Eckington Way in Sheffield and espied a purple clad forumite going the other way on the bike path.
Alas I failed to identify myself as a fellow forumist so if that was you then the other person was me. Good to know I'm not alone in this little microcosm of East Sheff.

Hey that was me! My first time being spotted :D
I was just on my way home and I don't usually see any other cyclists, so I remember seeing you going down the hill.
I think I spotted Tewdric on the local news yesterday evening :)

Up in court for looting? ;)
Clarion, Butterfly & the lad stranded at Didcot Parkway station as there was only space for two out of their three bikes on the train. Poor buggers, stranded at Didcot.Fortunately not for long, we caught the next train with no problems :)
LMM leading a veritable peloton through Battersea park this morning!
Does Aunt Brenda still brandish her broom?

I didn't see you! Did you spot my new bike? That was this weekend's excitement
Andrij, making good progress east along the Commercial Road late a bit past 11pm last night. I yelled, but I don't think he heard.
Spotted several YACFers today, simonp, Jo, Lotum, Redlight, and AndyC in the hotel, and IanH riding around St Quintin while we were doing a rece ride of the PBP start this afternoon.
Breaston, Derbyshire, Friday 19 August 18:50: YACF jersey (plus bike & rider) heading west. Who was that?
Heh. I didn't really notice anyone drafting. Too busy trying to work out which gear I'm comfortable in - I went all Campag on my new Condor Bivio-X (2010 frame which is nicer than the current crop and at a discount, too) and I'm not sure the compact double has got gears in the right place for my comfort zone. My legs are feeling the workout...
(For those that gave me good advice on bike choice, I looked into the Alfine 11 option for the Condor frame but it was going to work out too pricey with the Versa shifters I'd need in order to avoid bar end shifters. And I wanted the Condor frame because it has carbon forks and seat stays, where the Genesis doesn't. So I thought I'd live a little and try Campag instead of the Shimano I've got on my other bike. The jury's out, other than for looks, which it beats Shimano hands down on. Pics to follow when I finally replace the camera that was nicked at the same time as my Tempo.)
Hmm... <Goes away to check saved GPS track.>Breaston, Derbyshire, Friday 19 August 18:50: YACF jersey (plus bike & rider) heading west. Who was that?
Rower40? Timing sounds about right...
Me, on University Challenge, on September 5th.
They didn't ask any cycling questions so those of you who don't know me will have to snoop and/or guess.
.... (he was trying to leave in the "Paris" direction, I corrected him)...Is that right ?
You got one wrong, then one right!I got more than one right! Which are you thinking of?
are you the one with the hair? ;DI was on the other team, the one who looked like a cyclist. I haven't checked but you may even be able to spot the tanlines ;)

Picture round, the name of the religious scene depicted, you got it wrong (although after the other lot had already got it wrong). You then got the next one right about golden something (golden divide?) and then got the painters of religious scenes picture questions as the bonus questions.
Naughty boy, Greg! Nunc Dimittis was Simeon, in Jerusalem (I think), this occurred sometime after the Adoration of the Magi in Bethlehem, I seem to remember. But I thought you passed on several correct answers to your captain, did you not? A sound performance, I felt. Could you actually see the other team? If so, that must have been seriously distracting!
Giropaul.
So I'm one minute from work on my way home when I clock this bloke staring at me intently as he crosses a ped xing near the Mail Box. He crosses and I'm about to press on home when I hear "Basil!"
Sorry I had to ask who you were, Paul. I'm crap at faces.
Do you often visit Mordor? Give a shout next time and we'll coffee or beer or something.
I have to admit that I've always pronounced your forum name incorrectly in my mind. Sorry about that. When you introduced yourself I realised it was an association with an Italian road race, not a recipient of state benefit. ;D
Nice to meet you matey.
Crusty, Deano, Tiermat, bunbury, MSeries, CrinklyAuntie and CrinklyUncle in the den. The remaining space in Deano's luggage was filled with tasty baked comestibles, beer and tea and coffee drunk and i managed to cook, with a bit of assistance, a reasonable impersonation of a sunday lunch. It was smashing, thanks ever so much - you went way beyond the call considering your current circumstances. Nice to meet CrinkyAuntie and CrinklyUncle for the first time, need to see you guys on your bikes sometime. Nice to see everyone else again. Deano and I rode to the Grey Horse in Elvington where we met Bunbury, had a Copper Dragon then we all went our separate ways.
TimO,
Going up Bedford Hill, Balham. I spotted his purple YACF shirt, though to myself, "that's Tim, but he never goes to work this early" then caught up with him going down Cedars Road.
Tim, I didn't say hello, because we only ever seem to meet up on FNRttC and you never seem to recognize me outside of that group!
A Jaded.
On the telly. (National Geographic channel) Hope it didn't bring back too many painful memories.

This evening, around 6:30pm, I was spotted by Jurek just as I approached the bottom of Forest Hill. Nice to see you and sorry I couldn't stay for a longer chat, but I had to be in Chiswick by 7:30.
A Hilldodger...Not available on iPlayer!
...on the National tellyvision ! :o :o :o
Look out for him Penny Farthing-ing again at 7.50 and 8.50 on BBC Breakfast time. :D
That would be myself! <waves belatedly>
edit: Special gold star as that is the first time I have been spied, despite the cris-crossing I do of London. Which way were you heading?

fuzzy - I still remember getting the phone call from a fellow survivor saying "there's been another one".
"Overtaking in the opposite direction". I'll have to remember that one ;)

I've been hoping to spot, or be spotted by, different members the last couple of weeks, since, instead of Tooting & Clapham, I've been riding through Streatham and Brixton. This morning, I even wore my Clarion jersey, which anyone who has seen it can testify is quite, er, 'striking'. But no :'(
Not strictly speaking a forumite (unless he lurks quietly), but known to many on here, Sergeant Titus Halliwell of the Met's Cycle Task Force, in full cycling policeman gear (which I'd never seen him in before!) going along Pelham Street in the opposite direction to me, both of us trying to get around the traffic being caused by someone with a couple of vans parked very un-usefully. He stopped briefly to chat, not realising that I work in South Ken, so surprised to see me around there!I like men in uniform - is he dishy? He has a cool name!
You know what they call crepes down under? Pikelets.
I noticed mention of The Stolen Crepe was absent from accounts of the evening. I now know about you Essex pikeys! ;D

I never see another yacfer on my commute. I feel very left out given that I live in London.

Same here. The only forumite I have encountered more than once is Rob, although I have been briefly acquainted with Andrij and ZigZag. And that's despite wearing a YACF or Audaxing top most days.

You're in Lewisham area, right? In the mornings do you go southwards on the A21 riding a silver-ish single speed / fixed, sometimes wearing a 2011 PBP top and sans-magic hat?
Wendy - I think we met on the Hell of the Ashdown a couple of year back but, despite keeping my eyes peeled, I've yet to see you on the commute.
Part right - I do live in Lewisham and ride a (tatty brown) fixed without a magic hat and occasionally in one or other PBP jersey, but in the mornings I'm heading into the City so I usually join the A20 at Lee and then go through either New Cross or Deptford depending on my mood.
I also saw Mr Bunbury coming out of Wiggington as I was riding in. He ignored me though! ;D

But later, having just that moment parked the car in our usual spot, after driving back from Leicester, completely unexpectedly, a Kim, heading for her temporary base at the Den.

Top quality spot, that. I heard a shout of "Kim!" from behind and slammed on the brakes, expecting to see a CrinklyLion or barakta, and there you were.
I had waved from inside the car, and then realised that you have absolutely no clue what MFWHTBAB's car looks like, and probably wouldn't see people inside it anyway due to the reflection on the windscreen.....
I've just had some of your birthday cake. And a small beer. Or two. And dinner, all courtesy of CrinklyLion, with added entertainment from Cubs large and small...

I think the turnout was very good - both from the forum and overall. I hope that TfL will take note, but I can't say I am very optimistic.
Wendy, in The Guardian Online.
But then my instructor, Mike, arrived. He must have been rollerblading at over 30 miles an hour and with his perfect form and sunglasses I didn't know whether I was about to get a lesson or enter a face-off with Agent Smith from The Matrix.
Andy H, at work in Croydon. I was a bit distracted and so didn't manage to stop to return his 'hello' :-[
This is a bit of a long shot, but I THINK I saw Gerwinium travelling westbound on Jamaica Road, South-East That London, at 0915 this morning (Sunday). I was very incognito; black coat, Brompton, on the other side of a dual carriageway.

Next time shout, or say "listen carefully, I will say this only once" in a French accent.
AlexB, unexpectedly, in my local park this morning. Hope you found your workshop!
Not 100% sure, but I thought I recognised Adamski zooming through Docklands at about 1.30 pm today, on a yellow fixie. At least it looked like him, the last time I saw him with a beard, IYSWIM.
A doppelgänger then.
Well there used to be much discussion as to whether my James and Delthebike could meet without the universe imploding. They did meet safely on a ride at Christmas two years ago but were careful not to touch incase it caused the apocalypse.A doppelgänger then.
So, we'll have to try and find the entire forum's Doppelgängers, like on How I Met Your Mother. ;D

I spotted MFWMBAB's car. Obviously this wouldn't be news usually, but the mere idea of me actually recognising a car (I am of the 'ermmm.... wheel at all four corners and probably blue?' school of motor identification) is so frankly silly that I felt the need to record it.Yebbut if you know what to look for, his car is eminently recognisable even if he isn't driving it!
Just seen Adrian riding through Brixton. He overtook a Christiania trike behind the bus I'm on.
This post may contain clues as to why I was kneeling on the b ck seat peering out of the window!
I spotted someone on the A217 on Monday morning (about ten past 7, by the Sutton Life Centre), wearing an orange yacf top. I've no idea who it was though!

Tim, about your cat cam. I have been looking at it periodically for some weeks now and haven't seen a cat. Am I doing something wrong?
Her_Welshness by the Oval last night, we got to ride home together for the first half of my commute. Fanks, that was fun! You're a good rider, and I felt super comfortable riding with you.
I spotted a plenty of forumites at the racecourse centre yesterday. It was particularly lovely to get to meet Helly, and to finally meet Ernst and Mrs Ernst who I should have met on the scottish camping trip had inconvenient Real Life stuff not got in the way.
I did think it was quite funny when all the trophy winners were lined up for a photo, and I looked at them all, and realised that I've fed cake to probably more than half of them. I think this is quite an achievement, to say I've never yet actually officially volunteered at an Audax control!
... and I spotted a Butterfly with one of her charges, less obvious when I'm watching the approaching junction, but a cry of "Tim" from her helped a lot!I wouldn't want to risk infecting you - that particular charge has had the vomiting lurgy which is why we were wandering the streets instead of at a toddler group :(.
Unfortunately she went off at a right angle to my direction of travel, otherwise I would have briefly chatted before continuing on with my way into work.
As I was up a stepladder painting yeaterday I spied someone who looked just like Jurek riding past. It can't have been him, of course, as he's been told by his doctor he's not allowed out on a bike. ???
Andrij.
On Blackfriars Bridge.
On page six of the current London Cyclist.
One of the most distinctive of the world's mass cycle rides is the annual Dunwich Dynamo from Hackney in east London to Dunwich, a village on the Suffolk coast. The 193km (120mile) run takes place overnight (hence the name) on the Saturday in July closest to the full moon. The first ride, organised by bike messengers riding fixed wheel machines, took place in 1993 and the ride has steadily been attracting more participants ever since. Around 1,000 - including at least one penny farthing rider - now take part, relishing the ride's non-competitive nature, the beautiful site of the bunch's lights passing through the rural darkness, and the promise of an early morning dip in the sea at the end.

I dub thee Jurek Eagle-eye. If you hadn't mentioned it I probably would not have even spotted myself.
As I looked glumly out of the side window of the no. 65 bus near Ealing Broadway early this afternoon (don't ask) I saw two people on what appeared to be a recumbent tandem trike , the sort of thing that yacfers might ride. No idea who it was though.
Torslanda, on a train with Mrs Torslanda and the little ones. And Santa(who, I believe, is NOT a forumite)
Then the same in a pub, having lunch.
Once again at our house, drinking coffee.
Then at church for Christingle.
Back at our house for coffee
then finally heading down the road back to the wrong side of the pennines.

Teamonster perhaps? It'd be a red greenspeed trike.

No idea who it was though. If they were of a certain age that would be the most excellent Peter Mynors and his charming wife on either their Pino or Periscop. Quite how anyone can justify having two recumbent tandems is beyond me, but when I grow up I want to be Peter Mynors.
Mrs Phil's Luath in York
I presume it was hers. Brooks saddle and tape, dyno hub, marathon winter tyres.
Yeah that was me. Didn't recognise you until you called out - and I was already sailing past. You were nattily dressed in tweed, I seem to recall. Very suitable Bunburying outfit.Mrs Phil's Luath in York

Jane, NSTN, Rob (close enough) and Jurek at the LCC 'Go Dutch' photo-shoot* this afternoon.
* The less said about the organisation of the event the better.
EDIT - Akshully NTSN looked so utterly at one with her sit up bike, it defies belief. That bike is so Laura.Useless without photos...

A Charlotte at the bike show, rather taken aback by my declamation of "I claim my five pounds". She didn't give it to me.

Don't tell them about the ritual sacrifice to ward off the ice demon!
Or whatever it was...
We both wanted to be at the memorial ride but it was just too b----y cold. Even at 6.00 I couldn't feel my fingers despite having on two pairs of gloves.
Nice to encounter Her Welshness on the way home tonight.
I did, however, mis-hear her greeting of "Redlight" as a warning that my rear light had gone out! Doh.

Ummm... I must point out, in case people get the wrong idea, that... the bike in the photo is not mine. No bike of mine would ever stay so white! (and that's why I'd never get a white bike in the first place)Don't tell them about the ritual sacrifice to ward off the ice demon!

You must mean your initiation ceremony at the Three Shires Stones
That'll be moiself, for sure
Hmmm think I remember looking at the bike, can't say I remember who was on it. Were you one of the annoying gaggle coming into New Oxford Street? ;-)
The only one I really remember round there this morning was the guy who decided it would be a good idea to go to the inside of a bus before the Gower Street junction, just as the lights changed
tqt.
Feanor, was that you approaching Clatterin' Bridge about 4.30 this afternoon? I was making my way home to Kirrie from Turra, inna car though.
Panoramix climbing from Wick up to Lansdown in heavy rain/sleet.
Respect to him for being out in those conditions.
I think I saw a Bunbury haring down Lawrence street when I was walking home from the chippy earlier today, at around Cub teatime. Looked like his bike, anyway, from the brief glimpse I caught as he disappeared towards Hull road!
Not unless Paris Nice has move to South America!!

Bunbury, waiting at the lights on hospital fields road, as I turned right into it. I think.
Saw Little Miss Mac this morning. First time I've seen her for ages!
She's normally a blur...
I rarely see LMM even though we share about 5-6 miles of our route, as she tends to get to work before me and leave later than me, was nice to have a wee chat firs thing, especially as this is my first proper week back commuting since January.
feanor, again: t'was I who flashed you from the blue Honda Jazz, as you were just starting the descent of the Cairn o'Mount this afternoon. This secret training for the Snow Roads is quite unsporting don'cha know? :hand:
Being blind as a bat, I didn't noticeAre you sure that you should say this sort of thing?
Saw Bloomers100 running down East Hill in Colchester as part of the half marathon. Well, he saw me and hailed me, he was just one of a sea of sweaty-looking runners. I was a sweaty-looking cyclist going uphill the other way.
Rich Forrest and Miss Silverback, in the CrinklyDen! They broke off from their wander round the walls to pop in for a coffee  Although I failed totally by having no caik in the house :(
Someone who may not be of this parish, onna bike, wearing a helmet, spotted me just now at the bottom of King[']s Heath and shouted "Hey Kim!".
Phantasmagoriana, towing a trailer, and going the opposite way to me on the river path.
Except I didn't clock it was her (because I was distracted by a couple of free-roaming hounds at the time) until she was just about past me, so didn't say hello.
*waves a belated Hello!*
Oh - and Arch, both when we were on the way to school and when we were on the way home again. It must be h'officially Spring, she had the fast bike out :)
Gattopardo, who brought us cake.Coals to Newcastle?
Gobsmacked this morning to see my first ever yacf-jersey-in-the-wild spot, and I don't know who it was.
Chap heading west along the Embankment and turning right onto Northumberland Ave at probably 9am-ish, wearing a long sleeve orange yacf jersey and riding a brown Langster. I spotted him from the left hand filter lights onto Northumberland Ave from the eastbound Embankment (I am almost the only cyclist in the world who stops at that red light).
WHO ARE YOU?!
Phil D. On a back road just south of Benson this evening. I was on the return leg of a DIY 200 to Winchester and back and I guess he was just commuting home.Probably. AFAIK he sometimes catches the train (well, he used to when I used to: our paths often crossed at Reading station), & sometimes cycles, & when the latter, might throw in a little loop.
I do so need a YACF sticker for my mudguard, as I'm usually in civvies when pottering around London on the Dutch bike so don't tend to be wearing the buff or jersey.

Yes, I spotted the LCC sticker but didn't want to say anything as I went past in case I startled you (I need to get a bell if I'm going to carry on using that bit of CS7). But I was thinking that I need to get some new LCC stickers for each of the bikes. I'll also go off searching in Office Reception for YACF stickers now that I've been alerted to their existence :-)
I am always impressed by people who can cycle in civvies and still look pristine. I just get hot and sticky, even on the hire bikes.

This morning near Forest Gate: Hatler following close behind His Leggship on their final recce of the route for Friday night's Southend ride.Gah ! You beat me to it.
I'm pretty sure I spotted Her_Welshness as I waited at a red light to cross Camberwell New Road.
I spotted Peewit on the South Circ (I think - I can't actually remember - shocking isn't it?) on Tuesday night whilst I was heading for chez His Leggship.
I shouted, to no apparent avail.
Ooh, lets see
Tiermat, CL, CA, CU, Torslanda, Butterfly, Clarion, Crusty, Lindagordinho
At THoFC, for a very fine bbq
Just seen this. No, Fuzzy, t'wasn't us! I'll tell Woolly he has (another) double. Not unless Paris Nice has move to South America!!
I have heard it is a little chile in Paris at the moment.
We saw a YACF king of the mountains top on Gillygate, York this morning - no chance to say hi, but hello now!
Thing 1, Thing 2, Charlotte, Wowbagger, Clare (with tres funky boots!), Vern, Wascally Weasel, Tim Hall and HMQM, Steph, Notsototalnewbie, Dez, Kathy, Tim, Martin 109, Dasmoth, Emily, and probably a couple of others, in a pub off Red Lion Street.A few contenders here...
We're talking quality here, not just quantity.
Where do I collect my prize?
Lunchtime today in Richmond park a tandem captain in an orange yacf top. Any takers?
Hi! *waves*
I think that would have been me. I was going along there at just after 9.
Ariadne - if you want to spot a several of forumites you could pop round the Den for tea this evening! I might even have made a cake by then.
Lunchtime today in Richmond park a tandem captain in an orange yacf top. Any takers?
Unless anyone else fesses up, that'll be myself and my lovely stoker Cass (NOTP).
"Dave!" at speed to citoyen while I was racing today.
He didn't clock me though. :(
There was a chap in the red, yellow and mauve  Clarion Jersey at Herne Hill yesterday who wasn't our clarion. :)
Was catching up with a chap on a black bike with green Carradice on a Bagman down Queens Gate just around 9am.
He turned into the back of Natural History Museum/Imperial - just as he turned, I spotted a YACF badge on the Carradice. Just too late for me to shout hello.

Hello!
Yesterday evening, at the south end of Northumberland Ave, I spotted Phil turning left onto the Embankment, wearing a nice green yacf jersey.
I seem to be getting a habit of seeing forumites in exactly this spot, but too late to shout hello...
Tim O near Clapham Common this morning :). That was a nice surprise!
I spotted too many forumites to even list at the weekend!
Young Mr.Bunbury was spotted just now, although given that he'd come to pick up a rear rack it'd have been bloody amazing if I *hadn't* seen him ;)
Nice to see you.
I have just been listening to Woman's Hour. There was a very interesting young lawyer on there. Knows her stuff. Communicates well. Should go far.
Ham.
Was it you we clocked on Sunday morning?
Town-bound, west of Ilford?
Three of us (Pippa, Adamski & self) around 08:30ish? Heading east.
Well?
I saw a recumbent trike with a flag drafting a lorry down the uxbridge road at 30mph this morning. Who was that masked man spinning it?
On the A466, near Brockweir (Forest of Dean) someone in a Pink YACF shirt. Spotted by Miss Jaded whilst doing a Duke of Edinburgh award.
We saw Adrian on the way up Brixton Hill this evening. That was nice :thumbsup:Indeed it was

Interesting lack of knowledge by the police then. In most of the UK it's not possible to be charged with speeding when using a cycle, since the speed limits apply to motor vehicles. They'd have to attempt to charge you with something like cycling without due care and attention, which is going to be a lot more interesting in court.
Manotea in my basement :demon:
Charlotte, NSTN and m'self (does that count?) On page 4 of June / July issue of London Cyclist.
Then the same trio, plus NSTN's +1 on page 24 of the same organ.

Confused??? Page 4 of my copy has is a advert for Lezyne pumps. Which if it is really who you say is not confusing but downright scary :) and half the people on page 24 are under 10 :D
Deniece in Stratford St Mary today. And Denephew? :)
Not Citoyen. :(
I went to his home town, and he was away for the weekend :-[
But I seem to recall him extolling the virtues of his newly acquired Felt bike - which tonight's spot was riding.
It was I on a Pompino.
Do you pass through that way often?
Today I spotted Panoramix in the centre of Bristol (didn't get chance to chat to him because the local newspaper were taking our picture at the time) and also Dinamo who was on the same ride as me. It was the 30th anniverserary of Bristol Thursday Oldtime Cyclists and so we were doing a celebratory ride from central Bristol to Bath. I was on the back of a 1948 yellow Claud Butler tandem
Arch + colleague, in Beryl the Yellow Peril, spotted when I nipped out to theI saw Arch earlier on when I was dropping off a load of proto-belts1 at St. Nicks.audax control24 hour garage over the road for some milk.

We had a nice little chat and I took a photograph of her engagement ring - it's fair to say that there probably isn't another one like it! We might also have talked about titanium jubilee clips too :)
1 - ie. old tyres
I spy a yacf jersey p38 of the latest Tandem Club newsletter.
Who's that then?
Fixedwheelnut, who had dropped into the LFGSS South East drinks. Nice to see you again.
All of us spotted a Mr Boothby Graffoe who, while not a cyclist (as far as I know), is bloody funny.
A secret, one sided spot of Clarion and Butterfly just now on the 16:45 Sutton bound train in Blackfriars station. I was walking down the other platform to reach the bike area of the train on the north-bound train and saw them on the train on the other side.
Zillions of 'em, at the rally, although like last year I managed to miss Ara. Wowbagger, Clarion, Butterfly, TGL, Kim, Andrewc, Steph, David Martin+young'un, Regulator, Tomsk, Phantasmagoriana, Luke, MrCharly, MsCharly, CrinklyAuntie, CrinklyUncle.... and I'm sure I've forgotten one or two. Sorry!
and this morning's Jurek spot was a bit further from his den, crossing the Auld Kent Road and waving at a dozy PaulR,Frantic waving just about caught your gaze :P
Also, admittedly not spotted by me but by my elder son: Valiant doing the sound at a gig in Limehouse Town Hall.Ah, was he a performer or just watching? How did he know it was I?
Valiant around 17:30 on Turner's Road, heading toward Limehouse. I gave a shout, but wasn't heard.

Ah sowie! Earphones in. I thought I heard something and did glance around but you must have been beyond my vision. What were you doing on the back streets of Bow then?

He'd mentioned he was going to the gig there and I said "Oh, I think Valiant off of the internets has been doing some work there" and he then said "I see from fartbook that your mate off the internets is going to be there" and then he said "Actually that Valiant chap is doing the sound".
Do you happen to know what happened to John Wall? Son was expecting him to be performing - was he v v late or not there at all?

Dinamo and Mini Dinamo at Carnivelo. Actually I didn't spot them but was spotted, I would have gone right past without noticing them if Dinamo had not called out and grabbed my arm!
That international jetsetter Deano, loading two (!) bikes onto the Trans-Pennine Express train from which we (tiptop and I) were alighting, at Northallerton station, a couple of hours ago
The green looks good. But mini sizes are a very good idea, I reckon.Dinamo and Mini Dinamo at Carnivelo. Actually I didn't spot them but was spotted, I would have gone right past without noticing them if Dinamo had not called out and grabbed my arm!
Good to see you Cudzo !
Perhaps I should get a brighter YACF jersey and maybe one for Mini Dinamo ???
Arch, on her way to work as I was on my way to work, yesterday.
Wandering through the small French town of Loche today I bumped into John Spooner, aka Salvatore. He'd just finished a Belgian 1200, had cycled down to the Loire for the start of the Massif Central 1200 and once he's done that he's cycling from here to Milan to do the Mille Miglia. Then he's cycling home again. Makes me think I need to get on my bike a bit more!
other "names" who may or may not be of this parish?aka Teethgrinder
Steve Abraham
Spotted AndyC and Flat earth bob. They are at the next table in the restaurant on the ferry to St Malo also on there way to Niort for the Sem Fed. They are cheating though since they have a car with them :o
Late commute in today, for a bit of a half-dayat workforumming.
Many cyclists out and about, including one Mrs Pingu near Fettercairn.
You might ask Bob when he changed his name from 'Half-wheel' to 'Flat Earth'. I seem to recall him being presented with a half-wheel trophy somewhen.I believe our Deano is responsible for the flat earth nickname. Bob prefers Bob The Diesel. He's all torque.
Phantas, but she blanked me - possibly because neither of us were en velo.
Spotted TimO with his matching orange YACF top & bike today.
Spotted TimO with his matching orange YACF top & bike today.
Well, I always like to colour coordinate, except when I'm not. :)
Orange wouldn't have been my first choice for a bike, but with that bike price, or rather lack of much of a price, was the primary concern. Luckily at this time of year it does go well with the orange short sleeved YACF jersey.
Presumably I was somewhere on the commute into work, since most evenings it's dark when I'm on my way home, and less visible.
Phantas, but she blanked me - possibly because neither of us were en velo.

Has she met you?
We spotted Tokamak outside our tent in Niort because he had spotted me in my YACF jersey :thumbsup:You lucky thing. I haven't seen the 'mak for ages, and we didn't see him all week. Probably getting up late and riding mostly short distances with small people meant I missed him on the road.
Phantas, but she blanked me - possibly because neither of us were en velo.

Pub run to Beningbrough a couple of weeks ago? (I've met Mr B on rides before that, though).
Beryl did look like she was being mostly propelled by sheer force of will at that point! Mind, the bus behind you clearly thought there was plenty of time....
Deano,now in my lounge
Who did I see in an orange yacf top outside waterloo station at about 23:10 last night. I was just wheeling my fully laden tourer out of the station so there was no way I could catch you.

(imagine a cross between Joanna Lumley and Spitting Image's Douglas Hurd, and you've got the right sort of idea),
....
On the basis that forumites seen on the FNRttC don't count, I submit wowbagger, who I spotted in the foyer of Euston Station at about 2pm today.
...except he's on an island in Essex, too. So I put my glasses back on, and discovered it was in fact a woman with *big* white hair (imagine a cross between Joanna Lumley and Spitting Image's Douglas Hurd, and you've got the right sort of idea), into which she had inserted her sunglasses. A red jacket completed the disguise.
Saw a rider with orange YACF top, in Greenwich. I was at the Paul Rhodes bakery inspecting meringues. Early morning it was - before 9AM. Not somebody I recognised.

Male, tall, short dark hair, black framed glasses?

Unless gerwinium confirms my spot was heading south at 23:15 and therefore the wrong way for a FNRttC.Also, when I saw 'him', it was Saturday morning, no way could he have been back from FNRttC.

Longstaff maybeI'd have said 'definitely'
Very likely.I think that George was better known for building tandems and trikes, but he did (and the company still does, I think) build some excellent touring machines. Back in the day, Longstaff were on my list for possible builders of my audax bike (went with Dave Yates eventually, largely because he was based in Newcastle at the time)
I have just done an image search for Longstaff bikes and this (http://www.flickr.com/photos/fernbrook/6040820463/in/photostream/) flikr image was in the results. It is a dead ringer for one of the bikes I saw.
Panoramix plus Mrs P and both mini-panoramixes at a camp site in La Chapelle aux Feltzmeéns, Brittany where we all had a lovely meal and we are sharing a pitch. Mini-P rode most of the way here on her Islabike
Today I unexpectedly spotted CU out on his bike at lunchtime.
Oh, sorry to hear that. I don't know him, but please pass on my best wishes for a swift and complete recovery.
+1 - GWS Jean Louis!
Today I unexpectedly spotted CU out on his bike at lunchtime.
Today I randomly spotted CU out on his bike at lunchtime! He posted on here at 12:20 and 13:12, so it can't have been a very long trip if it was him I saw.
... and I spotted the Lion herself this afternoon. I think the family might not be a family at all but a spy ring masquerading as a family in order to keep a watch on me.

And I saw CU ride past the Indian restaurant, just as I stood up to put my coat on, on Monday evening about 9.30-10ish... He clocked me, and I waved.

Three cyclists, two wearing YACF tops, one of whom we THINK was CrinklyUncle, on the A167 south of Northallerton, around 1230 on Saturday.
I was a passenger in a Northbound car. :-[
I'm so excited - this is my first post here!
Tonight I was joined by velocitizen! We spent a very pleasant (ie: we only got beeped once for cycling 2 abreast) couple of miles riding into Long Eaton.
It definitely was the most pleasant part of the ride because about 14 seconds after we parted the skies delivered some very old testament thunder, lightning and rain.
Very nice to have you along on my commute, VC. Hopefully see you soon.
Marco Stefano in a YACF top, as I was on my way from home to Ely station to go to the Tour of Britain at Norwich.
Clarion's a funny name for a dog ;D

Are you suggesting something more sensible, like Fenton? :)
Spotted Clarion while I was on my estate walking the dog. I yelled but I was slightly set back from the road so he didn't hear me over the traffic noise.

Valiant around 17:30 on Turner's Road, heading toward Limehouse. I gave a shout, but wasn't heard.

Blimey - when I spotted VC again on Tuesday, I had no idea that it was more than 2 years since the last one!
Nice to see you again, VC.
Well, I don't see him for 2 years, and then suddenly it's every week (VC spotted again yesterday).

You have been to Specsavers haven't you ;D
Nice to see you as well Paul.
I ride with Beeston CC on a Tuesday night, a hilly 30 miles out towards Morley, up a few of the Pie Run hills.
A ride through Long Eaton makes a good warm-up.
I'm sure our paths will cross again.
I spotted Andrij, cycleman, dibdib, Gandalf,why1040delthebike and andrewc at Limehouse Town Hall :-)

Not by me, but someone was spotted by topcat of Cyclechat last nightQuote from: topcatblack yacf jersey in richmond park [yester]day 18.05 honking up to the ballet school
Who was that, then? I've commuted that way through RP a few times (it's not very far out of my way), but I didn't last night. So - Zipperhead? Wascally?
Another mystery solved :)
Yesterday, I inexplicably caught up with Origamist at Stockwell. Because of a lot of red lights, I was nearby till about Clapham Common, when he got away.
Today, I was spotted in Tooting by Gaz, the famous helmetcam cyclist.

And today, Gaz spotted me (and left me standing) near IKEA on the Purley Way, and saw me again (though I didn't see him) at Purley Cross.
Having chatted to a cyclist on the Old Kent Road last night about LEL (prompted by his distinctive jersey) and how he's not riding it next year but running a control, it occurred to me that he might be a parishioner here. Either way, it was good to chat and to hear that these rides are not impossible!
Fits the profile. Nice chap.

I think I spotted Adrian zooming down Brixton Hill on his Brompton this morning. I couldn't shout because I was in the work car. :(If it looked like me it would have been as I did ride the Brompton Thursday because the Carlton was flat of tyre.
Clarion.

Sort of.
He walked into Corridori Cycle Sports.
While I was on the phone to them.

Oops! Didin't realise I'd been friendly to someone. Will have to stop that :) Were you in the blue, riding fixed?
Yes, blue and white gilet, black fixed. I don't think our paths cross often as I come along CS7.
GiroPaul at Fradley junction cafe "again" :)
I spotted TimO storming along the A23 through Norbury, looking dashing in his purple YACF jersey this morning. I waved but he didn't see me as I was wrapped up in a Toyota. That's the trouble with cars - they hide you from your friends.
TEC and Mrs TEC tandeming in a fine stylee along the lanes near Dunham Massey. They looked to be going very quickly.I only realised it was you when I heard your voice. We did stop, but you were obviously in the zone and had gone on.
TEC's bright yellow hat is a great spotting feature !
I was wearing a black jacket with black shorts, black leg-warmers and black shoe covers. I was riding a black bike.

If this turns out to be correct, I think it will be a bit remarkable.
On Friday (11th of January) I drove down from Rochdale to Essex to attend the funeral of a friend. I had just come off the main road near Braintree and was riding towards Takeley when a cyclist came towards me who looked remarkable like Bobb, though I have never met him and only know of him from the forum. This was at 11 minutes past 12, lunchtime. Bobb, was it you? Dressed mostly in black, or navy and with a fetching black headband?
Peter
That would have definitely been me! I was out that way on Friday and I was indeed wearing a black jacket and my fetching black headband. Small world! :)
Its nice to be spotted! Afraid that was me. Walking because I broke my chain just at the top of Notting hill. Had to push the bike all the way across town (except for tyhe little downhills where I was able to coast). Very grumpy indeed as foot is broken and hurty, plus hands covered in chain black which due to the cold is now all inside gloves. To cap it all replacement chains (3) for recumbent needed because of damage and bill came to £60. Someone nicked my flag too.
Saw NSTN (and Rob) at the London Bike Show today...
...on a poster.
I love your bike NSTN, it's gorgeous and I covet your satchell.
Phantas, fixing her bike on the way into work this morning.
Unfortunately I was late and so couldn't stop to help. Sorry P!
Nothing properly broken - I just managed to not tighten the QR in the rear wheel enough when I put the wheel back on last night, so as soon as I tried to brake the wheel went forward in the dropouts. I think I manage to do this most times I remove the rear wheel - one day I might learn to tighten it properly! ::-)
Peter. On speakerphone at Torslanda's shop :D
Also had coffee with Tiermat and popped into Torslanda's to collect something green and shiny for Crusty.
The shop is a proper aladdin's cave. And there is Proper Cofee.

If the dropout spacing of the frame is correct for the locknut dimensions of the wheel then removing the wheel should only require the QR to be unlocked, the skewer/nut shouldn't need to be slackened at all. Simples!
Shyumu, in the Den, for coffee and soup. No cake. He doesn't, y'see.
Bearded Audax dude in acf shorts and a BMB jersey in Cirencester Waitrose cafe this lunchtime, with three other audax dudes, one wearing redlight's Audax England jersey. Thats-a me, Brymbo. OTP but, pedantically speaking, not in the very hot cafe, having chosen to dine al fresco. I hope that my choice of chocolate bar and apple juice, to complement the Doritos bought in Wootton Bassett, still qualify me as an "audax dude" despite my lack of hirsuteness.Bearded Audax dude in acf shorts and a BMB jersey in Cirencester Waitrose cafe this lunchtime, with three other audax dudes, one wearing redlight's Audax England jersey. Bikey Mikey riding down the A46 slowly and enjoying the traffic.

NOT spotted this morning: Jurek.
I was running a bit early this morning, so paused at a place I know Jurek can be spotted and hung around most of the time he's usually expected to pass through there.
Yes, I know the above is the antithesis to this thread, but can't see the point in starting a separate "not spotted" thread. If you feel the desire to throw rotten fruit at me, aim them (banananananas, preferably) instead at Jurek for running early/late. :P
What sort of bike/gearing combo do you use to tow a caravan?
;D

Nikki, at Critical Mass. "This isn't going to be a fast ride?" she asked hopefully...

velosam, in my kitchen, with his bicycle. This is sort of like Cluedo, right?
NSTN and I zoomed past each other on the commute this morning. yacf jerseys do help in spotting folk. :)
Andrij, again. This will likely be a regular occurrence!
We were midnight searchers for bikes. First we saw one bike. But it had no lights. That's not them! Then we saw another. But this one was on the path. That's not them! Then we saw three bikes, all on the road. Was that them? No! Their lights are rubbish! Then we saw Kim. Then we saw all the other cyclists cycling past. I couldn't count them all because they were too fast.
Then loads of 'em, as well as plenty from over the road, when the pyjama-clad SmallestCub and I sneaked out for a midnight moonlit adventure to the end of our street. We were spotted (well- sought out ) by Aunty Helen late yesterday evening, and very lovely it was to see her. And then today, we saw her again as we reached the last few miles of the G&Y fields, and that was lovely too, as we'd just been taking about her as we remembered the ride we'd done way back last winter which covered the same lanes.Spotted fboab and Chris S twice, as listed above. Plus lots of other people.
Jurek, then Wowbagger, then Kim.
Dave T the man behind The London Classic, formerly Caradoc on The Old Place, not sure if he's otp but I care not a jot as he's a damn fine fellow - at the top of Westferry Road where it meets Narrow Street.
Double whammy this morning....

So while we're exchanging a few pleasantries, who should cross our paths - non other than Notsototalnewbie, very much a-la-mode in a black yacf jersey, Brommy'ing her way eastwards.
NSTN is a popular one to spot. We had an exchange of furious waving on Narrow Street this morning :D
The unmistakable rear view of the Basil, walking from his (presumed) bike park into Five Ways House. I was on the glass bridge, and suited up for working, so Basil wouldn't have recognised me anyway :)

Which means I must have been only a minute or two ahead of you as I saw her crossing Butchers Row.
Hi Paul. I'm a little worried that my rear is "unmistakable" :)
Interzen, out in the sunshine with Gina.On my way to work, though, and matters weren't helped by misbehaving gears1 halfway up Malton Road :-\
note to Interzen - it might always be the Alfine death rattle :(If that's the case then it'll be the excuse I need to convert the 1x1 to fixed and transplant the Alfine-11 onto the orange Genesis.
You got to your computer before I did, Gandalf! Good to see you - we'll have to talk more next time. I was aware someone was riding very steadily behind me and wouldn't have said anything, but, then as you overtook saw the yacf top
Wasn't it a pefect afternoon for a pootle?
Indeed it was, sadly on gardening duties today. I often do that route, so I'll keep an eye out.Like this ? https://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=71155.0

He's off his normal patch. Was he a bit lost? ;D
I think I saw the former Peewit (can't remember current name, sorry) on New Kent Road, riding a Pearson. The location fits, if it was blue in colour it'll most likely have been PaulR.
CycleChat jersey in Swindon yesterday evening, anyone here? *waves*Sorry for the delay answering, another CC jersey wearer informed me I may have been spotted and I realised I have been reading this forum without being registered :-[.
Who could it be?

It could have been me, probably the only CC wearer in Wiltshire but could have been an outsider :P
Can you remember where and approximately what time?

I never wear shorts even on the hottest day, I wear 3/4 longs, so my legs are pasty white all year round ;D.CycleChat jersey in Swindon yesterday evening, anyone here? *waves*Sorry for the delay answering, another CC jersey wearer informed me I may have been spotted and I realised I have been reading this forum without being registered :-[.

Either way, hello!

Guilty as charged - I dislike being cold so I'm only just transitioning from longs to shorts!
So far at the Gatliff in Howmore we met a chap who knows eck OTP.Doesn't everyone know eck? He's, well, internationally famous, is eck.
Not a direct forumite but one known to those of a FNRttC persuasion - Graham Hill, friend of Simon Legg, Cheam and Morden gent and originator of the Gurkha bridge route on the Felpham ride. I remember him battling with a very borked wheel on a Brighton ride. Anyway, he is the warden at the youth hostel on the Isle of Raasay.Blimey!
Do we know a gent, partial to wearing a pith helmet and riding on aDescription fits Joff Summerfield.batteredwell worn, green (?) penny farthing? Spotted said chap as he was cycling west along Poplar High Street this evening.
Adamski and I are cycling in the Outer Hebrides. So far at the Gatliff in Howmore we met a chap who knows eck OTP. And over the last few days we've kept bumping into a chap and upon chatting to him this morning at the Berneray Gatliff turns out is billplumtree. Small world. Big community. You must be following the same route as Frances and I did, twelve years ago. How magical a place is Berneray? On the beach at Howmore, the wind was so strong, Frances and I played a game of testing how far we could lean backwards into it without falling over. Did you stay at Rhenigidale? I would say that I was feeling homesick, except it's not my home!
His new workshop is in Trinity Buoy Wharf.
Which kinda fits with the Poplar High Street spot.

WHAT?? :o ;D
Last week: Deano and Mcshroom, who most kindly agreed to keep me company for a couple of days when I ran away to the country. Bike rides; pubs; friends; what could be better? This place is kinda alright.
And then, once the boys had gone, billplumtree came and rode his bike with me too. Then he made vegetable-pilaff-to-die-for, and sticky toffee pudding and custard, and he brought ginger beer, and was excellent company.
I am incredibly lucky. Thanks you lot.

Innit?
I was spotted this morning by what looked like an owdbob...
Pretty sure I saw crinklyauntie ( there can't be two pink bikes like that) and maybe crinklyuncle on Hull road in York around 11.00am this morning. Whave been themas driving past so couldn't stop and say hello
Ah! I thought there were 3 of you, but was blinded by the pinkness ;D lovely day for it, much nicer than shopping in central York I'm surePretty sure I saw crinklyauntie ( there can't be two pink bikes like that) and maybe crinklyuncle on Hull road in York around 11.00am this morning. That would have been them (I was there too) - we were heading out to Millington. Kim saw us on the way back!
The Slofens at Wheems campsite, South Ronaldsay, Orkney. Tea, Slofens's very own fruit cake and great company.
Spotted Wascally Weasel in Leatherhead this morning in his Pirate Jersey.

Was that you I saw in the blue yacf jersey then?
Little Miss and Master Mac, purely by chance, as they were leaving Barnes reserve today.
On Saturday between Sawtry and Oundle: yanto, adamski and the ChrisS/Fboab tandem. Oh, and marcusjb going through the bins outside Tesco in Oundle ::-)Spooky. I spotted a Pedal Castro in a mighty fine hat.

Otherdave and I were pootling home to Kirriemuir this morning when we spied a brace of Pingus far from their normal habitat. Nice to see you both, hope you had a good day oot. :)
I think there's a good chance that person can be identified. Not so many thereabouts, and it's a bit of an unusual commuting route, I'd have thought.
I spotted someone in a yellow (I think!) yacf jersey yesterday (or possibly Tuesday!) on my way home from work. We rode quite close to each other from Wilmslow to Handforth. Apologies for vagueness, but you've probably had descriptions that are even more vague before...
A virtual, or should that be paper, spotting of Oscar's Dad - I think! He slid through my letterbox this morning...I spotted him too! :D

That's got to be a scary experience in the morning if you're not prepared. Was he in a plain wrapper with appropriate warnings on it?
Scored a glass of rose and freaked her sister.Blimey, you don't hang around do you?!
Mcshroom, crinkly lion, lantern rouge, London Edinburgh London, feline, simonp, sandyv, greenbank. To talk to, chriss and fboab at a distance taking to crinkles. And someone else (male, Slim, Long pony tale) in a black jersey who I didn't speak to, being an anti social sort. (Me that is, not the spotee)
That Caerau, on the 200km audax we both did today, and completely serendipitously, That MattC heading in the other direction.
Torslanda, plus clan, at our house yesterday.
It had been far too long (over 6 months) since we had seen them and we had a great time, talking shite and eating food...
CrinklyCub, onna 'bent, on BBC West Midlands Today.
CrinklyCub, onna 'bent, on BBC West Midlands Today.
I just saw this today via Velovision. Was it the baraktacycle or another? I thought the rack bag looked vaguely Carradician.
Yes it was me but I'm sure you were dressed in purple! I knew it was you as you'd been pointed out to me on the freecycle though we've never actually been introduced.
Nah, I was just north of Yat Rock. Routechecking Severn Across bits with 2 other forumites from That London (who DibDib had passed fixing a flat). That Caerau, on the 200km audax we both did today, and completely serendipitously, That MattC heading in the other direction.
I saw Chris S and fboab going in the other direction in Usk. Was MattC in Usk too then? Quite fun seeing other audaxers on another audax crossing paths
Wobbly John in Ely & District CC colours leaving Littleport, negotiating the roundabout on the A10.
Since it is Tuesday, was a Tuesday Night TT on the cards?
Two folk whose names have escaped my memory, in the rain outside Brockenhurst Te*co on Saturday.
A fellow in a purple YACF jersey in Richmond Park this morning, a Mr Weasel perhaps?
a FNRTTC which Dr Google tells me was heading to Southwold. Any of us?
Well, we waved, and they waved back, anyway!Riding at the back, I did indeed wave back.
a FNRTTC which Dr Google tells me was heading to Southwold. Any of us?
I think Adrian, full time grumpy git OTP and Ianrauk, also sometime OTP were meant to be on that one. Long Martin, northern monkey who did LEL, is also on The List I think.
Unknown forumite between 11 & 12 this morning, heading from Hungerford in the direction of Kintbury. Pink YACF jersey, beard, accompanied by a woman not wearing YACF gear.
Who was it?
I was with Mrs B & several others on a 90 mile Reading CTC ride to Lower Chute, organised by Cardiac OTP.
I reckon that'd be adamski & Pippa.
Aha!(http://www.smiley-faces.org/smiley-faces/smiley-face-whistle-2.gif) (http://www.smiley-faces.org) Burly? Middle-aged?? Love you too... ;)
So . . . who might it have been? Fairly burly bloke, IIRC, & wearing a cap. Both middle aged? I didn't get a long look. Didn't notice anything distinctive about the bikes.
When did burly become unfavourable? It's what I'd call a solid, muscular bloke. And middle-aged is descriptive, not derogatory. He is stout. You are sturdy. We iz 'dimensionally challenged in occasional timeframes' :)
If either of you can think of a better description which conveys the desired information, please share it.
What's happening to language? Sturdy is now taken as a euphemism for fat by many people, which is bloody stupid. Now it seems we're about to lose burly, which is just as daft. Should I have written "differently slim"?
A quick flick through London Cyclist reveals the words of our Jane. :thumbsup:I had to chop a few miles off that route before they put it in! Still has White Down in it though.
Another "2D" sighting, which awaits many of you when you get home today - this time it's Auntie Helen!I still haven't received my copy!
Arellcat, OTVP, over a table and a cuppa this evening in "Look Mum No Hands" in Old St.
Steph suggested I take the Tube back to the hotel, it being quicker and less frenetic than dicing in traffic. I said something about that costing money when I could just ride my bike instead. I then spent the next 45 minutes playing cat and mouse along roads I didn't know, shouting at taxi drivers, and generally agog at how busy it all was.
Yesterday: SlowCoach, who got to test hellymedic's biscuit recipe. He parked his fabulous convertible outside my house. I pretended it was mine.
Later he came back, along with Kim, Nikki (lovely to meet you!), Crinklylion and a brace of Cubs. Lovely it was. And my doorbell got fixed too, which is one of the bonuses of a YACF posse coming to your house.
Marvellous.
So far this weekend....
Kim and Nikki, who appeared at the Den and then got dragged out to a gig where we spotted MrCharly (and Mrs MrCharly) and then this morning Interzen who called round to collect the intrepid Mordor-escapees and take them out for a gps data-generating bike ride in the name of Art. With added cake plans.
Despite having been back on my Kingston to Westminster commute since late July, I only had my first sighting of Zipperhead since then today. No sign yet of Little Miss Mac or Nosototalnewbie – although I think the latter no longer works in the same area of London as me.
Gerwinium this morning, as he small-wheeled his way up to t'Wharf.
I said g'morning as I passed him but I'm not sure he heard / recognised me.
No worries - nice to see you..... :)Gerwinium this morning, as he small-wheeled his way up to t'Wharf.

I recognised you, but I think you were too fast for me to hear my 'hi' :) - alternatively I could be too slow on the Dahon.

So what's the procedure, do you stop and chat or just a flying hello at the lights/over the road/overtake?

You are correct, I'm now much further east in Valiant territory.
'Procedure' is usually a yelled hello/shout of name as I pass Pippa or Andrij (and only once, Jurek) who are normally going in the opposite direction to me.
I think I might try out a different commute via the Isle of Dogs, though; I don't like Tower Bridge (for the motorised traffic) or the Cable Street cycle path (for the other cyclists) much.

If you get yourself down to Greenwich and use the foot tunnel (assuming the poxy lifts are working), I think you'll find the ride up the Isle of dogs is surprisingly quiet and light on traffic.
There's not much about until you reach the Wharf.
And for the most part, you'd probably be going against the flow, pre-Greenwich. No?
Sam, are you suggesting Rotherhithe tunnel...I've done that once and have no desire to do it again?!
The spoon and the toothed triffid are both very lovely shininess - as is the pot. And there does seem to have been an attack of hob-cleaning fairies.
I’ve just been speaking on the phone to a gentleman who is delivering his professional services at one of our Birmingham Offices.Yikes, that sounds dodgy!

Fboab in a snazzy yacf apron manning the cake stall at the Silly Suffolk HQ today. :P
Did you upsell?Worst. Punchline. Ever.

Basil, doing a Lidl run as I was waiting at the lights having just emerged from Aldi. He didn't seem too concerned that the shop was in the wrong place. ;D;D
adamski, bloomers, huggy, Lars, OD, ridehard, Soupy and Tomsk @ Tomsk's Essex Super Randonneur awards lunch :)
Julian, on the telly this morning while flicking through channels to get the early BBC business news.
Policeman on a bike came alongside me at the bottom of Haymarket tonight and complemented me on my YACF top. I thought he meant the colour (almost hi-viz orange) but then he explained that he enjoys the forum. So, whoever you are, don't know if you're "out" on here, so to speak, but hello anyway.Nice.
At the German Xmas Market. More beer was consumed. (and where she introduced me to Weisbier)Good God, man, what took you so long? Salvation can be found here (http://www.beersofeurope.co.uk/german-beer)
Shall we mention the singing moose?Oh my god! That wasn't you?

Kim. That has to be one of my most favourite things ever. An angel, holding what appears to be a can of Special Brew.
If I'd remembered, I'd have taken Steph to see it.
Jurek, spotted zooming homewards down Brockley Rd, as I sheltered in the doorway of the Brockley Jack theatre waiting for the doors to open. Couldn't shout out a hello, as Mario was trying to avoid being seen by an unpleasant ex colleague waiting at the bus stop opposite and he didn't want me to draw attention to our hiding place.Ah!
Was it one of you lot who yelled hello at me on commercial road this morning?

Jurek.White top / blue bike?
Was that you I spied as I waited to cross westferry rd? 8.30 ish?
I waved and yelled but you didn't seem to notice. The other cyclists at the lights looked at me like I was mad though.
Perhaps it wasn't you...

Had me puzzled for a while - and searching for a member called DTB.
I didn't spot any identifiable forummers today but think I was spotted by someone or other driving a dark car - may have been a Ford Focus but couldn't be sure - who hooted and waved as they were circumnavigating the Rettendon Turnpike roundabout at not long after 2 o'clock this afternoon.
Mystery person(s), identify yourself(ves)!
I still don't know who it was.

NSTN lookin' good onna Brommie at Westferry about 45 minutes ago.
Much hollering and limb flapping was reciprocated. :)
I *think* I may have spotted Valiant's mate Dave (is he a forumite here? He's a good sort, whatever) on a yellow Condor trackstanding (like a Boss seems to be the thing to say here) near The Den yesterday.

Thank you Mr Br, you're lovely too. I must try to get up to Manchester again in the foreseeable future.
Oi Wow, what does "MPD" mean?
Wowbagger and Mrs Wowbagger, as I said goodbye to them on the train on the way home :(
I must say, I did have a rather jolly time with them, it was a joy to meet MrsWow, I hope that's the start of something there, she appears to be a keeper.
They stayed at my place for a few days last week, hopefully they got to see a little of the local Ps of I, while I was at work. A day spodding and pottering while I packed my stuff for a weekend away with bikes, then a train up to wonderful Alnmouth on Friday evening. There was a short night ride down the hill from the station, past the Friary and into the pub. There was food. There was beer.
Wowbagger has already reported thoroughly on our ride yesterday, and what a lovely day it was.
And this morning? A freewheel down to the estuary to admire the vanilla sky reflected in a stunning sea out towards Coquet Island, then a quick fettle and a ride to the station.
I feel better for that.

I thought Michael Fassbender was a random newbie.
A Kim-a-like at the University in Telford this morning - I did several doubletakes before I was sure it wasn't actually Kim...
...and a Wowbagger look-alikee in a broken down car in Shrewsbury as well.
Not quite forumite spotting - but there seem to be lots of doppelgangers around at the moment.
mcshroom, but that's because I went away with him for the weekend, so that might be cheating. I had a stupendous time up in the Cheviots.
On the way home I think I might have overtaken Deano, strongly cresting a steepish incline somewhere between Scotland and England.
A very fast Andrij yesterday, flashing past Ham Hall so fast his "Haaaam" shout was doppler shifted from the side of the road, and so fast he couldn't stop :demon:
To be fair had he done so, he would have had a 4x4 rearrange his rear wheel.
Male cyclist wearing a yellow yacf jersey, heading west on Coombe Road at about 8.15 this morning. That would be me !

My first time as a spotee. What were you on/in and which way were you heading ?
Sorry, Ham, we didn't see you yesterday. Mind you, we Leafers get a lot of petrol heads who gesticulate, flash their lights and shout "You don't pay road tax!"

Bet you get people splaining[1] at you about how you never see electric cars because they can'tclimb hillstravel a decent distance on a charge, too. ;)
[1] I hate this term and it's sexist roots, but in this case it's exactly the right one for the job.
I don't get the splaining thing either. In fact, I don't think I've ever come across that word before. ???
A phantasmagoriana yesterday, although I didn't realise it at the time.
Actually, I did ride through Gt Waltham, but on Saturday. I was wearing a yacf jersey, but a white one. That doesn't help much though does it :P
Black YACF shirt through Great Waltham, Essex, yesterday morning, not someone I recognise, who are you?

It was rr. Very nice chap, lives in Witham just around the corner from Oaky. Been out with us a couple of times recently. Goes downhill like shit off a shovel!
Jurek in Mr Waitrose Emporium of Superior Foodage (Greenwich branch)(Pizza section)(not on a bicycle at the time).Mine was locked up (Sarf Lunnun, innit?) outside - Where was your's ? :p
That's cos I live on the other side of York! Also because I was elsewhere on Sunday, busy getting mistaken for someone from the Clifton that is in Bristol.
It was a surprise to see a YACF jersey in the foyer - perhaps there should be a mudguard sticker or something for forumites cycling in civvies.

As an aside.... Waitrose Greenwich cycle parking facility is good, but seriously undernourished in terms of quantity onna fair-weather day.
I reckon if they doubled it, on a sunny day it'd still fill to capacity.
I sense an email to Waitrose is brewing....
I'd also like to point out I was neither browsing or buying pizza.
Thank you.
Was wearing a pirate jersey.
Tonight is the last chance to spot me on that route, on a work commute that is. I'm off work next week to pack up and move to Croydon. I'm not doing this willingly as I'm going to miss my riverside route and riding through Richmond Park.
Purple YACF jersey heading north between Stockwell and Oval around 8am today. Below the jersey was Brompton with a Carradice youknowwhat. Sir, you were pogoing up and down on that machine like effin' Zebedee (no, not theOTNT one). You get paid on Friday - treat yerself to a stiffer block!
I *think* I saw Wowbagger on a tandem near Freeland, north of Eynsham in Oxfordshire. If I did - hello again! I was riding a blue Bob Jackson with a red, white and light blue "St. Raphael" jersey on - riding in the opposite direction.Curiously, Mrs. Wow and I were indeed in Oxfordshire during the weekend in question, and we were on our tandem, but we didn't escape the city. The furthest we pottered was up to the B4495, crossed the Cherwell, into Marston and back to Oxford.
We met a few years ago but today I was wearing full stealth wrap around sunglasses and helmet so I doubt you recognised me.
If it wasn't you - you have a doppelgänger who also enjoys riding tandems!
I thought a purple jersey in those parts was likely to be you, darkpoint, but I've never seen you on a Brompton (at least, not that I recall).

I think something vaguely Deano-shaped went haring past me on Terry Avenue earlier - certainly I don't know of many other people who ride a 26"-wheeled fixed with mudguards and bendy bars.
No doubt this will be confirmed or denied when I see him later on.
(whilst I was aboard an orange bicycle and wearing an orange top, the top was obscured by my windproof jacket on account of it being a bit parky)
ETA: It was.
Saw an orange YACF shirt (with a cyclist inside) yesterday approaching the Mangotsfield triangle part of the Bristol Bath railway path ... I was heading north toward Pucklechurch
Think I saw Iddu on Saturday in the Oxfordshire/Berkshire/Wiltshire area, can't remember exactly where ::-)Well, twice, so take your pick - you were passing through Wantage, and then the Ashbury-Shrivenham road a few days later

Double-header, as saw Fab Foodie in Oxford Sat AM [ did you go back and buy it? :) ]
So who was that in a yellow YACF top in central Manchester tonight? Ti road bike with discs...
Who did I see in the red yacf top, on a Brompton with carridice. Making good progress over London bridge south bound just before 6pm?
I was on foot in mufti so no reason to have seen me, you were past before I could even think of calling out.
So who was that in a yellow YACF top in central Manchester tonight? Ti road bike with discs...
You missed the Rohloff !
Yes, that was me on my way up to Helen's.
Where did you see me alex and, more interestingly, what were you doing in MCR ?
The former Ms Weasel spotted a YACF jersey wearing recumbent rider in the area of Knaresborough yesterday on her way to the station - possibly a blue jersey?
I thought a purple jersey in those parts was likely to be you, darkpoint, but I've never seen you on a Brompton (at least, not that I recall).
The Brompton commute is a recent change, I have a new shiny job :-) but I am 53rd on the wait list to use the underground carpark. :-(
<snip> last bit of Epping Forest. <snip> the young lady in the black leather mini-skirt
NSTN spotted me watching the Tour in the park in Hebden Bridge yesterday. I have a horrible feeling I wasn't polite enough to stand up, but I claim extreme knackerdness having discovered that Yorkshire really is quite hilly. (I knew that, obv, but that's my first time on a bike up there.)NSTN Gets About A Bit. I too was nstn'd on Saturday, we had chosen the same spot (within 5m) on the rise out of Skipton. Shortly thereafter I managed to spot a Wooly and a Peli (not difficult as I had knocked on their door) and a little later, as has been previously recounted, a Tiermat, Mrs Teirmat and TLD. Again a little cheat as Ihad bribed them with food.
**Waves hello to NSTN and Rob**
Damerell at various points on the same ride.I didn't realise he was another YACFer. He didn't comment on my jersey - or are we talking about different people?
Met Iddu in the spectator hub at Hawes - apologies if I wasn't quite as polite as I might have been - the organisers of our trip, and the manufacturers of Yorkshire hills were conspiring to grind me down into a quivering wreck!Pleasure.
I am reasonably sure it was Delthebike riding away from Paglesham this morning as I was driving Morphy to the sea wall for his 5 mile walk.
Rode home around midday to pick up something I'd forgotten to take with me in the morning. Saw a Wascally Weasel lookalike turning South onto Battersea Bridge.
Who did I call out to on Monday evening? Just south of London bridge, north bound in an orange top.
I was in my Gillet whilst traversing from Fenchurch Street station to Waterloo.
Yes, well I was stopped at the lights and had time to see you, your concentration was perforce elsewhere on the road.Who did I call out to on Monday evening? Just south of London bridge, north bound in an orange top.

'Twas oi moiself.
I did smile and wave in a rather uncertain fashion ;)

Good to put a name to the somewhat stretched jersey!
By proxy: my daughter saw a green yacf shirt in Blackpot Lane, Oundle yesterday morning.

I take it you don't wear a yacf jersey yourself? Your name has been mentioned twice by random cyclists recently, not because of the yacf connection, but for being (and I quote) "another f'ing nutter who rides a steel framed fixed wheel bike". :D
Two in two days.Paul has recently had his hair changed to include a bouffant with a green tint.
NSTN yesterday on CS3. We were going in opposite directions and I recognised her just ass we passed each other. I shouted out "Hi Laura" and she replied but not sure she knew it was me....
Today I think I saw PaulR go past me on Queen Street. He was heading straight onto Southwark Bridge whereas I was turning left onto Upper Thames Street. So confident was I that it was him I should "Paul" but he didn't turn around so maybe it wasn't him. Yellow top, blue (?) fixie, carradice bag, same hair as I last saw on PaulR :D

No idea who it was, but he wearing an orange YACF jersey and cycling through Purton, Wiltshire just before 6pm this evening.
Iddu, in an alleyway at Wallingford Bunkfest (http://www.bunkfest.co.uk/). Both of us in search of a mid-afternoon pint, but going in opposite directions.

You'd also have to work out where TimO is before using it...
i may well spot one or two forumites on a regular basis on my commute, but as I don't yet know any of you I can't be certain....
yesterday I passed a guy in NFTO team kit on a flash black bike taking it easy heading towards Dalton on Sowerby back lane, and another guy on a specialized allez (or similar red bike with white tape on the bars) with a beard (the guy, not the bike) in a dark (likely black, possibly navy) also going that way.
hope to spot tiernat et al on the northallerton ride one of these days!
Today, 10:20am approaching Leaden Roding.
You: Black YACF jersey battling with the wind.
Me: Red Croix de Fer top, black and white cap, beard and 'tache (in short: Dalston Rapha Victim) enjoying the tailwind.
Nikki! Who I bumped into as she ran across Jamaica Street on my green light - which meant I had to take her to hospital. Fortunately, it's just a couple of hundred yards up the road... She had to find a cash machine before we went to the pub.
Tim H, I believe, in black YACFery, riding south past my flat this e'en.
Not spotting but spotted
Hello to the two dressed in Willesden CC kit I passed yesterday in the Henley Hilly 100 (https://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=85234.0), riding up the Holloway lane climb to Christmas Common - one pushing a fixed gear bike up the climb, one waiting at the top. The fixed rider knew me and shouted my name after me, but my sunnies were a little steamed up from the effort to work out who it was!
Would that be simonp & Feline? Just guessing...
Woollypigs. This AM. In the shop. With a cup of tea. He's just said the same about you! :D
Amazing how an hour and a half can pass in the blink of an eye but we set the world to rights. What a nice man!

Purple long sleeve YACF jersey, black fixed, Sloane Square around 4:30 this afternoon?Too early for TimO' s home run - and he doesn't have, to my knowledge, a black fixer.

And so this thread could continue.....
Marcusjb, did I see you on your Tempo at Sheen Rd / Manor Road this morning at about 8?
Going through Horley enroute to Box Hill today wearing a Yacf Jersey someone shouted 'Yacf' at me ... have no idea who it was :D

Tiermat, last night :)
Whilst driving in Leigh this afternoon Mrs. Wow and I spotted a very effective looking cyclist who had an interesting mudguard sticker in yellow involving a picture of a bike. She stopped at the London Road lights and we got close enough to read the words: Cyclists stay awesome! It was then that we realised it was Domestique so we can categorically state that she did.

I met Valiant for the first time last night.
* swoon *
(He's still got it)
Spotted PaulR + PaulRyounger about to embark on a ride to somewhere.
I hope your ride turned out to be a fine one.
Do you play the tenor horn Matthew? *giggles* at proper instrument...
sojournermike. In a dark basement car park, this aft. Exchanging beer vouchers for bikes.
Like something out of The Ipcress File ;D
Jane and NSTN in Fatboys Diner at Trinity Buoy Wharf for brunch.

Yes and *dons Flat Cap and northern miner accent* you see French horns aren't part of a Brass Band, only Wind Bands and Orchestra, Tenor horns are in Brass Bands but not wind bands and Orchestra.
After a several of near misses over my years of participation in this fine community I have finally managed to tick Valiant off in my YACFer spotting book, and what's more he showed me his very splendid Town Hall, fed me copious TEA and we bonded over our shared understanding of the importance of proper projector maintenance and, in particular, filter cleaning. After a day of looking at AV solutions for education at the BETT show there can be few better people to discuss such matters with I reckon :D

A van driver attempted to kill me after we parted ways. A car pulled out of a junction while the van was overtaking me and rather than braking he dealt with this by trying to swerve round the back of the car hence occupying the space I was in.
I understand this passes for normal driving in Croydon. For my part I screamed, took evasive action and just about managed to get a foot down and avoid falling off. He's very lucky I couldn't catch up with him as he, too, put his foot down and just about made the lights at the next junction where I did not. Very lucky indeed as I was minded to put my D-lock through his windscreen.

Yesterday, from the 171 bus travelling through Crofton Park on the way to Brockley to pick up one of our loan bikes, Jurek, fixie dismounting perhaps en route to Arloe and Moes for brunch? Also saw two more cycling mates a few seconds later (but not YACFers) riding southwards along Brockley Rd. Then two more in Brockley itself. That was the plan.

Real friends don't let friends walk around the city centre for 9 hours wearing a single solitary bicycle clip.
Andrij today, outside my office, dropping of a pair of 1" Kona P2 forks for FrankenErn the commuter bike. He was very kind in that he was riding his Moulton TSR, affording me the opportunity to ooogle its loveliness.... ;D
Watching the Sewing Bee (my fondness for which is the responsibility of Ruthie)
As I've mentioned it elsewhere (https://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=26458.msg1823954#msg1823954) I ought mention it here.
I clocked Pippa this morning.
Her coat was red
Andrij, on a Moulton, heading East along High Holborn around lunchtime. We were a pied, and hailed him, but his steely determination drove him onwards with no backward glance :(
LEL jersey this morning, heading north through the Greenwich foot tunnel at about 08:15.
Anyone on here?
Wheeling an Orange Roberts?

That being, presumably, the same Orange Roberts that was on top of the car in front of us as we drove onto the ferry at Calais at the end of August. It's quite a striking machine.

Small world.
Forumites are like buses, you don't see any for ages then two come along at once . . .
First Tiermat calls at the shop closely followed by that Si_S.
Coffee, a good natter and mending bikes. A great start to any Saturday.

That sounds about right - we'd set off from the south Ardeche in the morning and headed directly north across the Massif Central to avoid the nightmare of the A6. Had a silver Lemond Tourmalet on the roof with blue wheels.
Oh, and she also showed me a photo of something nasty in a Petri dish as I was packing my supper into my pannier.

Si_S, in the shop with the Trek. Wheel rebuilt, BB bearings replaced.Cheers mate, no creaks or clicks so no need to emigrate. The bike feels alive again
Must've done something right as he rode off into the gloom of a Manchester late afternoon and didn't come back . . .
If someone has an account here but has never posted anything at all,
Spotted Jurek and had a brief chat in Newell St :) Was lovely seeing you again matey, feels like it's been an age!
No it can't have been that long ago surely?Last time I saw you, i think would've been at Charlotte's wheel building class in the TH - whenever that was.
A slightly knackered looking Von Broad at the Hillingdon track today; well, he did do the Elenith yesterday! Don't think we've met since the Winter Solstice 200 in 2007 :oGood to see you again Dave.
At approximately 1040hrs I espied Jane :-*, OTP, leading 20+ LCC Lewisham* riders along South Hanningfield Road, anti clockwise around the reservoir.
*I think it was that group. :-\
When I passed that way heading for York a couple of years ago I got caught up in a sportive, and greatly confused the chap taking photos at a bend in the road. The wind was, indeed, a bastard, requiring a dismount in some crosswinds near Manea to avoid being pushed right over the other verge.
itsbruce, along with friends of the forum Titus and Kat on today's Tweed Run.

Where's the Flat Cut?
Jurek, in the warehouse, with the hi-viz gilet.Did he make you wear the counter intuitive Bloo one? Gilet, that is, not Tube of Art.

Barakta, on page 7 of Cycle. Our postie is evidently a bit slower than delthebike's.I haven't received a copy of Cycle since the Dec/Jan issue as I was on a CTC suspension list, don't know why! ??? (should be sorted now though) I got it from somebody else's copy.

Valiant, earlier this evening.
On the crossing O/S the T/H in Limehouse.
Always good to cross paths with Sam.
He has SPD / SL pedals for sale. In quantity - if anyone is interested....
Best PM him, if you are.
You got up there and did it! Well done! How was it for you?
On a beautiful Thursday morning I spotted a YACF jersey in the distance as I was coming out of Middlewich, heading towards Byley - luckily the rider was going my way so I introduced myself (rather loudly and perhaps incoherently) to Tony Collinet on his way to Cranage Hall. A pleasure.
Come to that, I spotted a Tiermat
I spotted Ham in his garden shed on Tuesday.
An Els on a canal towpath not far from Heathrow. Unfortunately I was late for work and a shout and a wave was all I had time for.It was great to wave!
Two spottings of Kim in a week: one in Victoria Sq at the Tuesday bike do, and then one evening in New St Station as she appeared to be taking up the new sport of recumbent wrestling in the lift.
Princes Risborough... We really should have a list in rides and touring or somewhere of such things. Two spottings of Kim in a week: one in Victoria Sq at the Tuesday bike do, and then one evening in New St Station as she appeared to be taking up the new sport of recumbent wrestling in the lift.
Heh. That's not a new sport. The Mordor Central B-side lifts are strictly amateur level, anyway - a bike will fit diagonally and there are two easily-reached sets of buttons, so it's basically an exercise in getting it in before the gormless crowd pushes in past you. For proper wrestling, try the lifts at University, Derby, or London Lpoo Street, all of which involve a three-dimensional element to the wrestling.
Jamiej.Cheers Basil - now I know you're down the road...
He gave the game away by looking at my tourer outside the Country Girl and then asking, "Are you Basil"
I was.
Nice to meet you, Jamie, and all the best for PBP.

That actually sounds more sinister than I intended!
Spotted on the towpath just south of Broxbourne Saturday morning. Yellow YACF top, stopping to take a photo.
Saturday early afternoon, pink YACF jersey, turning into Newtown from the Llandrindod road. Didn't get a good view. Could it have been iddu?
For the first time ever, I saw someone in a YACF top. I understandably hid in a bush until the threat had passed.Where?
That there Wascally Weasel, just now, in our kitchen, supping lager. Lovely evening! I apologise for the dog's behaviour...
Something about seatposts I heard.

The evocatively named River Pool Linear Park (the Waterlink Way) between Lower Sydenham and Catford. A group of cyclists heading south, though they'd stopped, probably to rob the local kids. One of them wore the top. About 3.30pm on Sunday afternoon. I was heading north on a blue Brompton, looking intent because I had to be at the Hormiman Museum in 15 minutes.

We were on the waterlink way on Sunday. Clarion and I were both wearing yacf jerseys I think. Unusually he had the duck on his bike and I had panniers that suggested a week's tour rather than a day's poodling about with Pollards Hill Cyclists. So it could well have been us.
And Alex B on Tooting common on his way to the Dun Run :). One day I'll recognise him before his bike :-[
Other way round to many spottings but as I left the café in Ely yesterday in my Orange yacf jersey WobblyBobJohn appeared in civvies to introduce himself. So hello again Wobbly.
Ruthie and Steph in Durham tea shop. Fizzy drinks in jam jars. And (for some) CAIK
Just spotted Wascally in That London, near Vauxhall Bridge. Couldn't shout as I was stuck in the back of a car, but *waves*
Saw a red YACF jersey wizz past me - going the other way - through Hyde park at about 8.45 this morning. I called Y-A-C-F but the speedy cyclist was gone...
Hello, whoever you were :)
Katie otp, with Karen Sutton occasionally otp, over cake in Your Bike Shed in York. Two new ticks in my (not actual) YACF Spotting book!
andyoxon, at the Depart, long after all the paraphernalia had been removed. Good to see Andy again :)

Non-spotting actually. But there must surely be a forumite or two in Richmond Park in the mornings this month. I'm often in an Audax Cymru jersey. And am always easy to overtake.
Someone in a blue YACF top speeding down Hassocks high street yesterday - if it was saturday I apologise that post my first 24h I feel quite adled. That would be me. About 5ish ? And there were (or should have been) some children behind me.
Hopefully that was a Kim heading towards me in the distance as I turned right onto the Bristol Road this evening.
As the 'Kim' waved back and her eyesight is probably better than mine is, I assume I've not freaked anyone out.
Marj, spotted over coffee cups in Patisserie Valerie this afternoon :D
And here's the weird one - Kim's cadence/peddling style. (No, I don't mean the cadence/peddling style was weird - I mean it was weird that I'd recognise it)I dunno, doesn't sound _that_ surprising. Perhaps a slightly more refined variation of the gait analysis that allows us to pick out people we know at distances where we can't see faces?
Wow, I'm starting to recognise cadence/peddling styles? Blimey!
Eta. Clarion is another I'd recognise that way. Don't ask how. It's not something I can put into words. It just says 'Clarion'
I’ve just seen Dibdib!
Ah rumbled! I forgot to put the social ride tea shirt on! ;D Mark is a really nice bloke and hugely supportive of cycling in all of its forms.
Polar Bear and MllePB at home in Rugby, which is a lot nicer than I thought it would be (Rugby, I mean). I've only ever seen it from a train carriage and I expected a mini-Coventry ;D
NSTN in Wandle Park! :D
Basil, heading up Selly Oak High Street about 15 minutes ago.
(I shouted, but predictably you didn't hear.)

Like for tea and Cake in polite society? ;)
There was a veritable throng of peopleonbikes at the front of the queue to turn off Bournbrook Road into Bristol Road this morning. I recognised one of them.
"Basil!"
"BASIL!"
*pause*
"[Basil's_other_name_which_is_not_in_any_way_similar_to_the_name_just_shouted]!"
*nervous shifting from people wondering if I have some sort of name-based Tourette's*
Then the lights changed and we Bristol Roaded in different directions.
Shouting at Basil doesn't work. You need a distinctive cadence.

Sorry Nikki
That's twice this month I've not heard forumites shouting at me. My hearing is pretty bad anyway, but I hope this is not a sign of impending serious loss.

Wtf was the autocorrect doing there ???
Bloody hell I'm an antisocial sod with no identifying gait or cadence. I've never seen anyone and no one's ever seen me. I did meet a few people on rides on the distant past - but that was another life, other forums. Our paths have probably crossed at some point, given your proximity to Pompey. We just don't know it..
Surely I can't be the only NCR Route 2 yacf commuter. I say hi to everyone but they're grumpy sods on the counter commute and, presumably, just think I'm mad now.

His wife had just finished the Warmley Forest Park 10k. I think.
^^I have to wonder what Crinkly Lion's walls are made of. ???^^
I can confirm that while the rotation of the tiles in CrinklyLion's bathroom isn't consistent, they don't appear to spell out a coded message.
Foam bath letters? That's a new one to me! I'd assumed they were ye goode olde magneticke fridge letters, so I was wondering about steel walls. Which would probably be good for a secret underground bunker...^^I have to wonder what Crinkly Lion's walls are made of. ???^^
It's the bathroom wall, and those are Early Learning Centre (and somewhere else I can't remember) foam bath letters on the tiled wall above the bath - they stick with water. Original authentic Cristal "chicken" tiles I'll have you know. Well, apart from the cheapo blue B&Q ones underneath, which were my 'temporary' fix (and my first ever attempt at tiling) to the gaping hole left when we ripped off the cracked faded nasty plastic splashback the day we moved in to the Den, in October 2000...
Um, I was wearing a yacf jersey. It sort of went from thereA man by the name of spacebadger introduced himself at Warmley station cafe (Bristol to Bath cycle path).Must have been an interesting conversation... snip

My spot – perhaps – someone looking remarkably like JonB dashing down the Gloucester Rd on a Brompton about an hour ago. Seems like the wrong place for him and I wasn't aware he had a Brommie, but it did look like him!
Not seen but heard,
DocSquid on radio 4 now on farming today which is from their wood.

Basil on Raddlebarn Road with his race face on and looking, dare I say it, slightly dehydrated.
I do hope he managed to find somewhere to take on some fluids.
You're supposed to wind down the window and shout "Get on the cyclepath!"

Yup...was there, although not bike was for stepson, not me. He's 6', I'm 5'2". I attempted to ride bike from Man Vic to Man Picc. That was interesting. Suffice to say, it was just about possible, but I was in great fear of the top tube, the whole time. Stepson over the moon with the rather neat little Peugeot frame, built up just the way he likes it, single speed freewheel and fixed, plus the addition of a dynamo hub which puts my mind at rest somewhat, as he's always losing lights. His face as he took it from me and rode away on it...well, haven't seen that look since he was a good deal younger. Sort of happy kid on Christmas morning face. That Jane from That London, in the shop this afternoon, picking up her new bike.

Last night at about 6.30, a red YACF jersey heading north over Southwark Bridge. Might it have been a Ham? I was southbound and inconspicuous.
Si_S and Longers. Both in the shop and at the same time.
I'm not sure if they introduced themselves to each other as there were one or two others in.
Life's hectic...
PAC, perusing bike pron in Newbury - hope it wasn't too spendy :)Not on the day, apart from coffee and cake there ;D. New bike for Mrs PAC has been selected, though, and Thule Chariot is on order for Baby PAC
I think I spotted, or rather was spotted by, a Jurek heading up Friendly St as I was heading down. I heard the call, turned to check, but was already half way down as he was at the top. Being late for an appointment, sadly couldn't stop. Would never have been able to chase him down anyway! We were late, collectively - which is why I didn't stop :-[
Would that be clarion and butterfly here on the banner of 'Let Clothes Be Clothes'?Yes, that's us!

Were you in the peloton as well?
Yesterday the little duck and I cycled to the London transport museum. On the way home we spotted Speshact outside Balfe's bikes in Kennington. I would have paused but we were on a mission to get to tooting common for ice cream before the cafe closed. :)My bold.
DEANO ,at the level crossing at Milton on the A689 heading towards Alston , riding fixed..
Spooky. Look who spotted me on a platform, Friday night. They were off for Type 1 fun, I was headed for the Type 2 variety.I don't know which is what.
The enumeration order's pretty critical with those: Cycling works best after food, sex after cycling is likely to be a disappointment, that sort of thing.
Type 2 fun is like fun, but different. See also: Audax.
... sex after cycling is likely to be a disappointment ...
jumping on someone the moment after they've finished PBP or LEL is unlikely to be the best idea.
I briefly spotted and chatted to Adrian, when he was on his way to watch some cycle racing around Croydon town centre, and I was on my commute home and trying to get to Argos, to pick up a couple of eBay parcels before they closed.Did he have to deliver some bread to Gold Hill on the way?

Spotted TimO on Clapham Common. I was wearing a Fridays shirt so it would have been rude not to have said hello.
Met up with a couple of holidaymakers at Callanish for a coffeeit was so good to see you! We're just home. Great holiday, just gorgeous. Returned via Harris, Skye, Loch Lomond and Hadrian's Wall. We are planning our return next year!

A smiling JStone pedalling up the Gloucester Road this morning. He's just back from riding over the Massif Central in unbroken sunshine and temps in the 30s, jammy git!
Wowbagger and Mrs Wowbagger on the Embankment today on the Freecycle. He's hard to miss, even from behind !
Ambleside Avenue in Streatham, waiting at the lights this morning: a polka-dot YACF jersey. My money is on TimO.
Jurek has it, it was almost certainly me, since I've yet to see another cyclist in a polka dot YACF jersey on my commute!Where's my prize money? :P
I've been running a bit later than optimal this week, that junction is definitely on my route, and it's a lucky commute when I don't have to wait at those lights.
Is this thread the 'Real World TM' equivalent of Pokémon GO?

You are a star. Thanks very much indeed.
Bikey-Mikey and MattC, separately but in the same place, yesterday. It was only when I saw Matt I realised most of the cyclists coming the other way were on a (proper, organised) audax (obviously some were "just" roadies etc) (but with a stonking tailwind – how is that fair on an audax? outside help, surely?!)
Kim today sitting in my Velomobile somewhere between America and Venlo.Nice to see you (and Jochen & Klaus) too!
Several other forumites as well.
Unidentified person in red yacf jersey heading towards Brighton from the top of Ditchling Beacon today. Hello!
That there Oscar's Dad, in the shop, with the classic steel bike.
He doesn't visit very often, makes the place look too respectable . . .
JonB with grandson (estimated age: 280 words per minute) on the Railway Path.

Blimey - when I spotted VC again on Tuesday, I had no idea that it was more than 2 years since the last one!
Nice to see you again, VC.
Well, I don't see him for 2 years, and then suddenly it's every week (VC spotted again yesterday).
TL;DR?
Paul Smith in C and N Cycles (http://www.candncycles.co.uk/) selling me shoes.

Just seen this. Yes, that was me, heading off to my pilates class.
Yesterday, as I was pushing my flat-tyred bike back from work, I was spotted by and subsequently spotted alwyn in a going-the-other-way car.
Today (so far) Deano, fboab and ChrisS who have been fed soup and macc+cheese, and who got me to stamp their cards....
I nearly forgot to mention seeing Flatus last weekend, riding with electronic gears now he's too decrepit to change gear manually.

Maybe I'll visit again the next time you lot are there. The racing looked like a lot of fun!
Was sat in front of TimO at the lights in South Ken twice in the past week.
He never remembers who I am, but Tim, if you did spot the YACF badge on the Carradice saddlebag, now you know!

That's very kind, but usually I'm on an anonymous black Ridgeback mountain bike with a hub gear and a Carradice Nelson.
I wasn't aware either of them were otp (I met the Adrian and I think also the Rebecca on a FNRttC). I see Rebecca's on a Surly.
Blank yacf top, sunglasses, black (daxwes?) w pannier bags heading up linden road towards Cotteridge. About 2pm. Taking #1 child to swim lesson, so prob quite confused by random ped yelling out a "hello".
Knowing people from the FNRttC can be particularly confusing, not just because of the high overlap with The Other Place (where many forumites have dual nationality, but usernames are more contended so don't always match). It's entirely possible to have long conversations with someone during a night ride, then not recognise them in daylight or at breakfast due to the removal of layers/helmets and the absence of previously distinctive bike lights.
I do believe I spotted Zipperhead on the Embankment this evening.
If not, I shouted his name to a complete stranger. :-[
One of my colleagues spotted someone in a blue YACF jersey, on the bow roundabout/underpass. Any takers or guesses ?

And earlier, I was spotted by zigzag (not sure if pre- or post- his tumble). I think that's the first double I've been involved in.
Early this afternoon I (figuratively) ran in to jiberjaber near Wickham Bishops. Those ACME jerseys really do catch the eye.

Cream rather than lemon,
This weekend I saw Rich Forrest in a field, which is not unusual, but also the rarer spot of Jen M, which was a nice surprise. :)Did you manage to fit in any lepidoptery?
MSeries, in Cowpen Bewley:thumbsup:landfillWoodland Park
Bianchi Boy: crossing Culham Bridge this morning in a pack of clubmates, whilst I skulked along the pavement contra-flowwise, nursing a squealing BB home.I was at the front and spotted you first....I said to BB that we should've invited you to join us an an honoury guest. We battled the headwinds to Millets Farm and had a very fast ride back with a string tailwind
He spotted me first, possibly due to my new and unusually yellow winter jacket.

Could've been Feanor?
Yeah, were his gears suspiciously clean and misbehaving? :)
Greenbank, are you visiting your parents?
(Saw a 'serious' cyclist leaving somewhere very close to their house at lunchtime today.)
Torslanda in his shop, it must have been a long week, he mistook me for Peter :-\
Just spotted geraldc on the anbaric distascope - BBC Londonton news were doing a piece on the Fourth Plinth.I love the fact that TfL were deployed to deliver Godzilla there.
There is a theme developing ...
You lot were in Ely, and didn't let me know? >:(
Yebbut, I work in Ely, and could have escaped easily :(
Someone, perhaps a Wobbly John on a recumbent trike on the way into Little Downham about 12:30-ish. Didn't get a close enough look to see if it was a restored windcheetah or not.
Steph on a TV programme from several years ago on TV this morning (and a couple of times recently). I never had access to a TV when they were originally broadcast so it's quite strange to see them now! :)
Did he make you pay for the tea ? ;DQuite the opposite, in fact ;D

Well, I spotted CET and Phil W on the Scottish Ride last weekend, both of whom I'd never met before.
I was wearing an Audax Ecosse top all the way round ( indeed, the *only* AE top I saw, which surprised me a wee bit ).
But in the cooler watches of the night I deployed my Spare Jersey and gillet, which were red YACF ones on account of them being big enough to wear over a normal jersey.
There was also someone in a yellow YACF jersey but I didn't get the chance to find out who ::-)

Met that Graeme in the flesh. Err, rather too much flesh actually :o
At the HPV World's at Betteshanger: Kim (not difficult as she was camped dead opposite me) and Tim Hall (and The Boy) who rocked up to watch this afternoon's race and were immediately co-opted as marshals! Thanks, chaps.
The Boy is also real, and much taller than you might think.
I always look remarkable O:-)
'Honorary forumite' spotted - On the way back from a holiday on the Norfolk coast, Mike Burrows riding a Ratcatcher recumbent bike, near Rollesby ( a few miles North of Gt Yarmouth).
velosam near Hyde Park Corner. He was on a Cycle Chat forum ride while HK and I were on the London Sightseer. That means I saw you too. I was heavily disguised in a black YACF top and ACF cap. (Other clothes were also worn)
Over the last two years, in the course of commuting in my milk float in to Uxbridge, I have on many occasions seen a cyclist whom I have identified as an audaxer and a potential yacf type, usually riding along the Oxford Road. Today this cyclist was wearing a pink YACF jersey, confirming my suspicions. Greetings to you! I miss my cycle commute. Can't believe that two years have passed since you left FH!
Now you mention it, I realise it is 2 years since I started working in Uxbridge but actually rather less than that since I moved away, as I spent several months doing the miserable cross-town commute by train/tube.Ah!
Not a forumite specifically but a recumbent rider turning off the A57 Snake onto a side road at Moscar this evening. Street Machine style SWB in grey, high(ish) bars, disc brakes. I was going the other way at 50mph so that's all you're getting. Anyone here...?
I was spotted by a group of 3 long distance types on the summit of the Col de sa Batalla in Majorca a few hours ago. One of them did spot my yacf top and asked who I was, he said he was a lurker but I didnt get his name.
I think Redfalo is there at the moment with a couple of chums

Bumper crop at Hillingdon today - HK, LWaB, Von Broad and Kim :thumbsup:We were talking at Leigh Delamere tea stop yesterday and we concluded that Kim's (formerly Charlotte's, formerly iddu's) Red Baron is the only bent in the UK NOT to have been owned by Mr L at some point ;D
And apart some seeing somebody with a large brain, I wouldn't have known who Kim is I'm afraid.
Lovely day to be riding at Hillingdon. Lovely day to be just walking around up there too.
Kim is too modest to mention wandering off afterwards with an armful of trophies too
Heard not spotted, but wasn't that our very own frank9755 on Her Majesty's Talking Wireless, Home Service branch, this very morning?
Peter (difficult not to as he was in the car) Graeme and Ian in the pubbe in Welton. Fab evening and great company.
Minor downside was the A63 closure and a lack of local knowledge meant a diversion of 45 minutes via Beverley to get to South Ferry and the M62. Getting home at 2AM made getting up this morning challenging. Do it again in a heartbeat thobut...

Fantastic, and thanks to a great forumite and friend
Yep, twas I, didn't spot you, sorry, too busy trying to stay alive.

I thought I saw Socks on his MTB coming down the south side of Brussie Hill between Bolam and Killerby. Looked like him behind the big shades 8), but he didn't turn when I called his name, so probably not.

Classics, noYeah. I remember the (excellent) telly prog - although confess to not knowing what QED meant.

Do you not remember the TV programme?
I guess she's posted it in the wrong thread, as it is completely devoid of context here – as far as I can see. As to which thread it was meant to be in, we'll have to await Helly herself.Classics, noYeah. I remember the (excellent) telly prog - although confess to not knowing what QED meant.

What I'm more unsure of is Helly's reference to 'Deus=God' ???

In which case the translation is more properly "That which had to be demonstrated".

Who's pissed you off this time?
Don't know if it's anyone here, but I spotted a cyclist in acf shorts just outside Henley (on Thames) about an hour ago.
the Bristol rd blue route is good for its intended audience of peoplewhoaretooscaredtocycleonbristolrdwithcars.
I saw me on the highlights of the England vs Bangladesh match yesterday. ;D
Who's that forumite from a few years ago. Zimbabwean, lives in Sarf London, gives/gave skating lessons by the Albert Memorial? Anyway, is he the co-star of this bit of Youtube goodness, as discussed, apparently, on the Jeremy Vine show?

It's a BSL to English dictionary, with words arranged alphabetically by initial hand position of BSL. Three dimensional hand positions and gestures are "written" using two-dimensional annotation which looks like Klingon, say. I likened it in concept to the annotation used for choreography but whereas I know virtually nothing about BSL, I know absolutely nothing of choreography, so take that with a dose of salt. Fortunately there are also photographs showing the word being signed. But totally useless, as far as I can make out, for looking up how to sign an English word in BSL.... a BricktionaryTM.
Wassat? A dictionary as used by Fred and Wilma Flinstone?

Sunday lunchtime. A small flock of ordinaries going up The Mall in that London, doing their best to not run over any C17 soldiery who seemed to be everywhere.
Any of you lot?

Me, totally randomly.
This morning I was on my way to meet a pal for her first ever tandem ride. Someone did a drive-by shooting of me and placed the video on an FB group "Vintage Cycles UK" and labelled it "How sad to see a friendless tandem". Wobbly John of this parish is a member of the same group and spotted me!
Does this make me the first YACFer to spot myself out for a ride? ;D
saw an ordinary on a car bike rack this morning on the A10 north of Littleport, had me wondering
I've often wondered where all those drive-by videos of me end up. I've yet to track one down on the interweb.
I met the rather dapper Goldcrank outside the 100 Club in Oxford Street to hand over a front wheel that was going spare. I got it for free from Ibrahim a few years ago when he emigrated and never used it. Goldcrank is going to put it to good use ( see his thread on the Wanted board).I relieved the same Ibrahim of a Crumpler courier bag prior to his emigration.
Then in the 100 Club I saw turista and the rest of his band playing some fantastic cow punk skiffle.
Windy in Carlisle :)
Non-Audaxers also at scene included the Bishop of Leeds, a Tory MP, a mayor, the Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, the ghost of John Radford and loads of sandwiches - all to welcome Graeme to his new parish. Very best wishes to you and Carol, Graeme!

I do believe that's Butterfly referenced in this thread about the astounding fact that, actually, it is possible to ride a bike while wearing a skirt.

(I'd add that you don't even need to be a woman; I've definitely seen Indian men cycling in lungi, which is basically a wrap-around skirt but traditionally worn by Indian men.)
I spotted Tim O on Queenstown Road and then again on Tooting Common on my way home last night.

Indeed it was :) Hot out there and my first ride since the ford incident 2 weeks ago!
Yesterday's planned 6x Southwick Hill intervals cut short as I saw a yacf jersey going the other way. Turned around and had a very nice chat with Pickled Onion, who I knew lived in my small market town but had never met before.

this afternoon , I believe it was Graeme the cycling vicar , heading north on the A689 over the level crossing near Brampton.
I believe I saw Mrs Pingu and Ravenbait today
Came here to report a beautiful orange velomobile on the outskirts of Durham today. Rider was using the cycle path along the A167 near Pity Me. Gorgeous looking machine, wondered who was piloting it.

Did the machine have "VELO QUEST" written along the sides in chunky black type?
Accidentally spotted myself: https://www.kidderminstershuttle.co.uk/news/19527470.bomb-squad-called-explosive-found-bewdley/
When I heard someone mention it was a bomb that had stuck me on the wrong side of the Severn, I was thinking some Germans had got lost on the way to Coventry. This sounds a bit more 'see it, say it, sorted' than that.

Did we ride past Wowbagger and a couple of others out near Linton yesterday?? (possibly loadsabikes?)
You were stopped at a junction, checking a map. I was suffering too badly, desperately hanging on to her back wheel while still 20 miles to home to let me stop and chat!
I thought Wowbagger had been around so long that he knew All Teh Roadz.
Someone said hello to me in Chelmsford? Is suspect they may be Of This Parish.Depends where you were in Chelmsford?
GCN has just put up a video from a BHPC meet at Hillingdon. https://youtu.be/sWM0CHJeYAI (https://youtu.be/sWM0CHJeYAI) I recognise Kim on the red barron and there must be more of you so own up.
A red ICE trike in Ely this morning, being riden by Slowfen, I believe?
Delthebike, sans bike, this morning, whilst I was heading for my Stoutness Exercises. We merely "hello"ed on another. It would have been good to stop and chat but I was cycling into a strong wind and had limited time. I arrived at the gym with about 2 minutes to spare. For the record 'twas I without bicycle not the Wowbagger.
Does an “electronic spot” count? FelstedRider has a tweet of his spotlighted by Road.cc in their story on Jeremy Vine’s twitter spat with a taxi driver.
A bunch of could be YACF'ers waiting for one of their fellows with a mechanical at the edge of Witchford. I stopped for a brief chat with their recumbentist, on a yellow Azub before carrying on myselfYACFers don't have mechanicals. They choose not to proceed.
A fellow cyclist waiting to board the ferry at Hook of Holland, after chatting I guessed he may be OTP, and indeed he was but not a frequent visitor. T-monster I think he said his forum name was.
I met too many to mention on LEL.
I was wearing a red YACY gillet and red YACF top some of the time.
My memory has grown hazy of all those I met.
I can remember:
Mr Larrington at the start, and at some control far from Larrington Towers;
Someone at the entrance / exit of a bike parking area;
The Rev G. at the secret control;
Hummers onna motorbike (more than once?) and I think at Eskdalemuir;
AlfaPete lending me a light at some control where my charge cable had broken;
Another rider inna green YACF jersey, name lost like tears in the rain;
Charlotte at the end.
And others I have missed.
Someone at the entrance / exit of a bike parking area;Probably me at Hessle.
It was a festival of meeting friends - one of the reasons I enjoyed the start gate marshal role was talking to almost everyone. Oh, and shouting a lot. I liked the shouting. You are a Vogon guard AICMFP.
I spotted a YACF jersey in the wild on Sunday morning between Shortwood and Pucklechurch in South Gloucestershire, a good chance they're someone who uses this forum?Think that might have been me if it was a red YACF top
I met too many to mention on LEL.I think we chatted a bit on the route out of Louth (we'd both encountered a dodgy van driver), I had a black audax Bristol top on

reading a sentence that begins "The King has..." makes you think you must be reading something written pre-1952
Yes. Its like having a male prime minister, only with a stronger suggestion that there might be dragons and castles and things later in the story. (Something John Major overlooked with his Back To Basics campaign.)Now there's a way of thinking of it. As I was basically ABROAD fraternizing with the FOREIGNS for the entirety of the Blair years, the last male prime minister while I was present, was Major. Obviously Cameron and Johnson were male, but were they really prime ministers? Not that May and Truss did any better on that front.
He's the one on the right, and is exempt from royal subjugation (at least by our royals), on account of being a FOREIGN. He doesn't normally get to serve food in front of visiting dignitaries, but his usual job involves chopping tomatoes and stuff, so...
Watched the start of that (to spot them)...is it as terrifying as it looks?
And what is the knob thing that the rider pulls after starting?
So...you ride naked? ;)Watched the start of that (to spot them)...is it as terrifying as it looks?
I've only ridden a three-wheeled velomobile, which is mainly terrifying in the sense of the size of the bill should you roll it. I expect that once you the hang of controlling a streamliner, it's slightly less terrifying than an unfaired machine, as you tend to get bruises rather than road rash if you cock it up. Plusminus poor visibility and the risk of freezing to DETH because you packed summer cycling clothes expecting to be inside a fairing, which you then have to remove because condensation.
And what is the knob thing that the rider pulls after starting?
Landing gear: A couple of retractable legs with skateboard wheels hold the bike upright until it's moving fast enough to balance on its own. This is a proven, if non-graceful solution that soon pays off in not keeling over on the start line of races.
I was imagining someone holding them all up on the start line.
I was imagining someone holding them all up on the start line.
That's certainly how it was done when I did a few BHPC races in the mid 90s.
I was going to ask if the visibility was as bad as it looks. I suppose whatever lens is on the camera makes the field of vision so terribly narrow, but the reflections and blurrs... I don't think I'd cope with them.Watched the start of that (to spot them)...is it as terrifying as it looks?
